Yea, I forgot until about an hour ago that we get Stroman today. -
Want one just as telling? Sox are 2-7-1 in series against teams with a a winning record......2 series wins, 7 loses, 1 tie.

Anybody notice how incapable Barnes appears to sustain his performance in back to back stints? Bad enough we don't have more than one guy that can go 2 innings in relief in a stint. We also have guys that appear incapable of sustaining a reasonable performance over stints in back to back stints.

Surprised Giles didn't come back slider away. He was playing with fire trying to place that slider inside. It was not finding a good location.

Gilles is giving us every opportunity. We can't hit his FB today.

Just about all of that while pitching with a bit of a busted wing. If he uses his head here, we will just see more air conditioning at Fenway from bat-fans.

I think we have a grand total of one guy that can go more than one inning out of the pen. Especially true now that neck tat is on the shelf. So trying to stretch to 2 innings was not a great idea. But I mean my God, can't even one of them throw a FB for a strike? No....No and No apparently.

This just happens to be the worst possible example of can't throw a FB for a strike turning into won't throw a FB for a strike. So lets just walk them around the bases. Once you start down THAT road you are really f***ed because if you ever just throw up your hands as the pitcher and say f*** it I'm just gotta' let him hit it and hope its at somebody, now you got ducks on the pond. Just a horrible meltdown.

When you cannot throw FB's for strikes as a relief pitcher you are basically f***ed. None of these guys has been able to throw FB's for strikes, hence they can't get ahead in the count hence they are f***ed.

Jr's swing gets so much better at 2 strikes. If he would just wait on what he sees as a breaking ball with less than two strikes at his size all he would have to do is get the barrel on the ball and its out of the park.

The funny thing about the the power pitching and power hitting thing is that all the pub on the pitching side is about mph....ALL OF IT. So Manfred had all the PR working his way, all these guys throwing 95+ and yet baseball is just the sort of game that self-adjusts most of the time. Suddenly he has all these guys now throwing curve after curve...breaker after breaker, denying hitters FB's in FB counts. Probably giving him nightmares. Whoops, my Manfred voodoo doll just slipped out from under the seat cushion. Let me get that back where it belongs.

IMO Manfred has been his own worst enemy in this. You can't convince me that he does not know he has been using ever juicier rocket ship baseballs year by year and he has so far only paid lip service to doing something about the shift. He probably thought it would be a few more years before pitchers would start throwing tons of breaking stuff. But NOOOOOOO!!!! That is probably what he says at night in front of the bathroom mirror before he brushes his teeth. "But NOOOOOO!!!!!"

That fly ball to CF is a blop in today's game.

The idea behind the breaking pitch has always been the same....make it look enticing enough to swing but make it finish outside the strike zone. Does not matter which pitcher you want to talk about other than Greg Maddox, the idea IS NOT to throw it for a called strike. As a result if the hitters are not swinging, the pitcher can look pretty foolish. Then again, if the hitter swings at that crap, we see lots of Bugs Bunny swing and miss, weak s*** dribbling around the infield and blops.

They might be OK with DJ if they have to use him. I am sure Manfred is disappointed by this but the number of breaking balls being thrown is going through the roof and there are now guys that throw breaker after breaker successfully and the hitters can't hit it. Then there is the oddball like Chavis that cannot miss them if the pitcher throws it for a strike.

I know he just got a hit but so far Vlad Jr is not showing me that he can carry a bag a' balls for dad.
