  1. Good point. Now we just have to hope that the US men can beat Canada. Shocking that they're playing in a semifinal.
  2. I still despise Ben Cherington. I have since the day we let Theo go, before I even knew who Cherington was.
  3. And not the good kind of no-no either. But seriously, even I knew that, and I'm the rookie of all rookies.
  4. He wouldn't like someone filling out a perfect NCAA Tourney bracket, because then he would owe them $1B. But yeah, Capuano is a solid deal all around.
  5. Reminds me of the Bruins in Game 6.
  6. Wrong thread????
  7. Yes. Completely agree. I see Drew as insurance.
  8. Man, you and Fred are certainly getting along today.
  9. Definitely. The effect that his absence will have on team/clubhouse morale will be greater than the effect of the absence of his performance on the field.
  10. Seems like the kind of thing that Cubs fans would do, which they did.
  11. However, we are not always going to have a tie breaking game like there was this season between the Rays and Rangers. Still important to avoid that WC game though.
  12. Well, the outfits usually give it away. A man wouldn't wear a low cut, one piece skirt.
  13. Wow. I have a pretty good memory to say the least (nearly photographic) and have always been a stat nut, especially when it comes to my teams and their rivals. You're exactly right there, Fred. It would be nearly impossible today to win 4 WS in 5 years, especially coming out of today's AL East, where it is always at least a 4 team race. Even if you played in the AL Central like the Tigers, you would always have a tough time in the playoffs because you would probably end up facing the same perennial contenders. In recent years, that has been the Yankees and the Angels/Rangers, but the A's are getting up there. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that with all these playoff teams and Wild Cards, it's hard to win continuously. Think about what the Rays had to do this season. They played their final series in Toronto, flew to Dallas for game 163 the next night, then had a day off until flying to Cleveland for the WC game, and then went to Boston for the ALDS. A path like that will make it hard to ever win 4 in 5 years. Hats off to the Yanks for doing that, because even then it was hard to do.
  14. Agreed. Knows what's best for the team.
  15. That's why there is figure skating. That Meryl Davis looks awfully gorgeous.
  16. I'm under 21 and without doing research I can tell you that during that time, the Yanks won in 96, 98, 99, and 00. Correct me if I'm missing any, obviously. Then they lost to ARI in 2001, and FLA/MIA in 2003. The WS in 2009 is obviously there as well.
  17. Kind of unrelated, but today I skiied on the same slopes that were used for the Salt Lake City Games in 2002. I'm obviously in Utah, been here for a few days now. Ski slopes are part of the Park City Mountain Resort.
  18. Just saw the news online. Thank you Jesus!
  19. I got Teixiera, assuming he still exists.
  20. Yes, which will be at the end of 2015 when Tanaka has TJS and is never the same.
  21. Well, if I said that that doesn't sound amazing and perfect, I'd be lying. Seems like a fantasy, but it easily could happen. This is the best post I've seen in a while. I completely agree with you. My first baseball memories include Jeter, growing up in a state that is about half Yankees and half Sox, although back then, the Sox were still "cursed." Like many other kids I know, I tried to imitate him to an extent, although my strongest IF position is 3B. It was so hard to avoid his influence.
  22. Yanks last 3 games of the year are at Fenway.... Not sure how that will go over.
  23. Thought I'd make the thread to celebrate the occasion. Yep... It's that moment we've all been waiting for. Jeter will embark on his farewell tour, much to the rejoice of fans across RSN. Obviously a first ballot HOFer, and such a classy guy. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/13/sports/baseball/derek-jeter-to-retire-from-yankees-after-2014-season.html?_r=0
  24. It irks me so much when people say the name of a country wrong, especially after watching the Opening Ceremony. Sometimes it's out of ignorance, and other times, it's just sheer stupidity.
  25. What do you mean? I've been to plenty of games over the years.
