In other order of ideas, seems like Sandoval will never pitch in Red Sox uniform under the current contract. Breslow wanted to play genius but only wasted money again for nothing. Won't be surprised at all if he pitches somewhere else later and be a CY candidate. -
Another winnable game on paper but this offense can't hit to save their lives anyways.

Most lineups of the last say 30 years would have scored at the very least 10 runs off this Astros pitching already. Hopefully 3 runs are enough tonight.

IMO this kid has way more ceiling than Tolle. Not even close. Also, demote Bello and let him take his spot.

JH is a successful billionaire old man but if this teams ends up with 100+, wonder what is he going to do about it. Furthermore how is he going to face his life until October in Boston?

You are taking into consideration vintage Story numbers. He's a complete different player now. Right now he can't hit to save his life nor I can trust his glove anymore. Said that hopefully what you are saying works out and could serve as bounce back point, but I see it very very unlikely.

The big question is what version of Bello are we going to see? If he comes in meatball thrower & walking ppl mode, we are done.

Why Story is in and Mayer out is beyond me. It's stupid to say the least. Tracy had the opportunity to operate based on his own ideas but seems someone else is running the everyday card. Said that when they finally realize Story is done and is not an everyday player the season will be over and it could happen before June.

With the current lineup plus Marte we would have had at the very least a 500 record thus far. Bello would have been very likely in the package to land Marte and would have meant an addition by subtraction, so sum a couple of extra wins there too.

Tolle's velocity AND location last night was off and the fastball is his major asset. Didn't he rest enough? When it is close to 100, it's almost unhittable mostly because it has a lot of movement. Tolle needs to keep working in his secondary pitches, otherwise he's going to be relegated to the pen for the rest of his career. You don't need advanced stats to know that.

When they let Bregaman walk and didn't sign another elite bat, all the responsibility by definition went to Anthony, whether it was said or not. It's called logic. Let's not fool ourselves, Duran and Abreu are not supposed to be at the same tier as Anthony will, at least not on paper. Anthony is supposed to be the face of the franchise, period. Heck, Abreu and Duran were trade chips not long ago. Anthony? He's Boston's Holy Grail! The real question was, Is he going to smash the ball this early of his life? The FO made it clear, and said Yes; again, when they didn't sign another elite bat to protect him. Said that, yeah, I still believe he's going to bounce back but for now, he has officially entered into my book of concerns, mostly regarding his glove and durability. Time will tell though, Regarding Duran and using your same geek logic, isn't he hitting the ball hard? What does StatCasts say? I haven't checked out but I would bet his BABIP is below league's average. Duran's problems are different though. He still has mental issues IMO.

It’s not a personal theory. Look at the lineup. He basically has to replace Bregman/Devers production. No Contreras, no Abreu. Anthony. Exactly, everyone thought (still think) he’s going to be a superstar but thus far he’s been a bust. Common sense says he is a concern but hey… ppl can go to StatCast to feel better.

We are in the same page. We are concerned basically because we’re expecting way more, especially from Anthony.

I have never said they made a big mistake on extending Anthony lol. All I’m saying he is officially a concern in my book that’s all. I expected wayyy more even this early. Also, they had to sign Suarez AND another big bat. JH has plenty of money. He has to spend.

The Red Sox thought he could carry the team by himself and made the fans to believe that. Look how they built it. he was hitting 1 and now he’s hitting 3. Only proven players or very special ones hit that high in big market teams in a regular basis. You have the minors to develop players, at MLB level there’s no patience especially with that hype on him. Add to the equation that this team was in the conversations to make the WS, doesn’t help.

Seems like locking down unproven young men with high ceiling worked in Atlanta, a team that doesn’t open the wallet that easy, and everyone else in the league is copying that included the Red Sox. Problem is you have to be good at evaluating young talent at both performance and personal lifestyle. It’s a “low” risk — big win opportunity they say, but still a risk, especially because your young men could relax or simply won’t work as expected. Look at Bello and Campbell. Bello is mediocre at best and Campbell probably won’t see a MLB AB again. Rafaela is mediocre at best at hitting with a great glove. Anthony is supposed to be the next Williams (or sort of) and this far he looks lost at the plate with a sloppy glove and durability concerns. Ppl will tell you that all that money invested are peanuts, maybe, but as I said, these young men could relax, distract and even don’t care anymore. Their lives are solved financially, anyways. Not to mention you are taxing the team trying to develop them.

When “rudimentary” stats like RBIs BA OBP and SLG are bad, your advanced stats are likely bad as well. That’s nothing but a cop out to sound you know the game. In big sample sizes “rudimentary” stats define a player as good as advanced stats, period. If you are a 200 hitter for 7 seasons you are likely not a good hitter. It’s that simple. Said that, all the hype on Anthony isn’t helping him. Right now he looks like a subpar player with durability concerns. Do I still believe he’s going to comeback? Absolutely. Yet, Is he a concern even this “early”? In my book he is.
