  1. Porcello was a mistake since day one. When I think in Porcello's contract, it somehow reminds me BJ Upton's. Both were way absurd.
  2. I perfectly understand WAR, it's not rocket science as you always try to present it. Your typically "You don't really understand how WAR works or this or that" cliche/cop out that you use to sound interesting doesn't work for me. FYI, FWAR is not la panacea. BWAR, neither. They are just a value barometers among a lot others. MLB teams have their own stats and methodologies to mesure value, and this has been backed up early several times with several articles months ago here, and while some teams could use it as a decent "reference" among a lot others, it is just that, a "reference", so let's not pretend they use it solely to correlate salaries. Also the kool-aid thing was kinda joke. I think it is evident, but as always you take it so serious. Chill out, I've been always cool with Kim, I didn't even charge her the sig bet LOL! The BL is that only Kimmi and probably you (not sure) still think that Porcello is a top-of-a-rotation, and he isn't by any means. At this point I don't see any potential in that arm either. He simply is a bad pitcher who could be mediocre at very best. We'll see though.
  3. Hi Kimmi. Still, those numbers makes you a solid starter (No 3-4) at best according to the FG's rules of thumb (2-3 WAR). A top of a rotation guy is arguably around 4 WAR regardless what a specific year's numbers say (which change drastically every year). i.e. In a year basis if most of the pitchers post 3 WAR, it doesn't make you a top of a rotation guy by any means, what it tells you is that this specific year most of pitchers kinda sucked, since the history of pitcher's performance is plenty wide and likely will normalize to those FG's rules of thumb. Also, those who post a 4 WAR+ consistently are rare specimens, you won't find them in trees! and Porcello by any means is in that tier. Again, while WAR is a decent barometer to mesure value, MLB teams do not even use it to correlate with salaries. The links and info that supports this has already shown earlier months ago, so let's not pretend that he deserved that contract because he didn't. Numbers are there. I think you are the only one around here who still thinks that Porcello is a top-of-the-rotation-guy and he is not, he has never been and I really doubt that he will be someday soon. If you still want to drink Ben's cool-aid, fine, but I think it is time to accept the reality, he simply doesn't have the stuff to be a No. 1-2 pitcher, and unfortunately we have to live with that.
  4. I forgot it Kim, but it is ok.
  5. I think Kim still owns me her sig in that regard LOL
  6. Yup, that's kinda the scenario I was imagining.
  7. Also, I don't see Castillo staying in the minors. For good or for bad he is going to be in the roster through the length of his contract unless he is traded.
  8. If Porcello shits the bed I honestly don't see him in the BP. IMO he will end up the rest of his contract as the eternal No. 4-5 while clogging us a spot.
  9. Well, I just landed in Mexico City and this escalated quickly. UN? I just gave u a honest advise. You can keep bullying a guy who doesn't give a s*** of what you say or write about baseball. it's up to you. Case closed.
  10. Still Doji, it's no need to bully a poster. He is simply emmiting his opinions about BASEBALL, some which I agree with and some not. Not big deal. IMO he is a good poster who brings a lot to the table.
  11. You have been bullying him over and over again and he doesn't respond you. Don't you get it? he simply is not interested in what you say. Why don't you stop in the first place and let it go? Listen, I'm not trying to begin a war here man, but I just think we all can express our opinions while we respect each other. This is what a board is all about, express opinions. Jung is not insulting anyone. Think about it, this is simply a honest advise.
  12. I think it is time to put a salary cap like in the NFL but I don't know if this could work out for baseball. While some teams can afford "easily" those payrolls, the salaries for some players are going way out of hands. Not sure how much this tendency is going to last.
  13. He is pointing out his opinion U?, relax man. Actually I find out some jung's points interesting.
  14. While Boston is a big market team I think you are overrating their payroll flexibility. On the other hand while it's unlikely that they all suck, they have serious question marks at least in 3/4 of them.
  15. It speaks volumes of how this team was managed.
  16. If Hanley, Porcello, Panda and Castillo suck, what are they going to do?
  17. A 70 M offer for a guy like Lester is an insult to start with. It's ridiculous. Horrible way to manage the thing. They definitely didn't want him.
  18. So you see a realistic 84 W team with a potential to win 95? Well that could be true if your last line comes true, otherwise we are going to be clogged.
  19. Hi sk, IYO what have you would have done to put a 90 W team on the field?
  20. LOL! I don't think you are following us. Brock Holt is actually irrelevant. What I'm saying is that he could be an option among 10000 if you wanted an average OF.
  21. LOL! Well, if that's the case, and quoting Bob Marley.. don't worry, everything is going to be alright. I don't think it's that easy or true Doji. If that were the case why in the hell aren't Lester and/or Scherzer here already? While they are a big market team, I think they have boundaries. Also, the Holt thing is a supposition considering that Castillo weren't in your roster.
  22. Probably you are right about Holt, or probably not. IDK. Honestly I would give him a chance, if I wanted an average OF, but that's me. Low risk/High reward. If he shits the bed, you could have payroll flexibility, thing that you could be losing with Castillo if he shits the bed. On the other hand, if I wanted an average OF, I'd never ever give Castillo's contract to anyone. I would use another strategy.
  23. IMO the clog thing is beyond the farm MVP. What I'm saying, is that you have to live with those contracts, and if they don't worth the money as you expected you won't have payroll flexibility to make a move in those spots. These days I think it's hard to find a team who could be interested in one of them and willing to eat those contracts.
  24. Exactly, and kind of my point. IMO sk if you want an average OF, you don't have to go to the market. You look it in your farm, or you give the chance to a guy of your bench like Brock Holt who posted a 2.4 WAR last year and can play that position every day easily; but if you still wanted to get that value in the market (2 WAR OF), I'd look for a couple of low risk/high reward OFs. Let's not fool ourselves, Castillo was not meant to be an average OF. If you ask me, they are expecting at least a good OF who can post 3-4 WAR through that contract.
  25. Well, thus far we are clogged, and it won't change drastically moving forward, IMO. Are they going to turn around and worth the money? That's really a tough question. IMO the only one who could have a chance to worth the money is Hanley and still we have to see it. Castillo could be an average OF at best, but does he worth that contract? C'mon!. Panda was a mistake since day one, and you know what I think about Porcello.
