Eddie Matthews was a rookie for the Boston Braves in 1952 which was the last year for the Braves in Boston and in 145 games he hit 25 home runs with a .242 BA and fanned 115 times in 528 AB.

Great post, SoxSport! I was a little kid when the Cleveland Guardians beat the Braves in the 1948 World Series. It seemed like they had that one great year but became much more solid after moving to Milwaukee. I think, had they remained, they would always be the Red Sox' little brother. Btw, what a great pitching coach Johnny Sain was!!

Francona is a class act whom I'm afraid will be missed in Boston. The mgr always gets the blame. Mebbe there's too much money today for players to REALLY care if they win or not!?

Tribe wins 4-1. 1-0 A's when I went to bed. 20-8 now. Best record in baseball. Who woulda thunk!! Guardians have not won a WS since 1948! Just havin' some fun while it lasts!

My bad. You were 3rd Now I have always admired the Red Sox. I love the city and it's history See, I saw Ted Williams, Mantle, Maris and Bob Feller play many games. Often, the Red Sox back then were not very good but they were a team I always rooted for. Sometimes it's fun to root for the under dog. That's why you gotta love the Guardians right now. The owner can't afford to pay attention. I am sure that the BoSox will end up in the playoffs and chances are good they win the whole thing but let us Tribe fans have our fun while it lasts (which probably won't be too long but ya never know..............)

It was a beautiful game from a purist's point of view. Both starters gave up 0 runs in 7 innings and the one run scores on a squeeze play. Lester only gives up 3 hits and Carmona 2.
