  1. The Sox aren't getting any of the calls the Yanks are
  2. Is it crazy to consider signing Cano next year to play 1B for the Sox??
  3. Lol. That ball was 4 inches outside.
  4. As Tim Britton points out, keeping Iglesias up with Boston would open up a slot at SS for Bogaerts, who is 2-2 tonight and has 70 games now in AA and has an .890 OPS entering tonight's game. Getting Bogaerts up to Pawtucket would enable a little more depth at 3B, which would've be extremely valuable. Plus, it could get him up to the bigs within the year.
  5. Looks like the Sox are going to keep Iglesias up after WMB returns as the utility guy. Smart move, IMO. Just based on his performance, he seems to be learning more and getting better just by surrounding himself with Ortiz and Pedroia than by playing everyday in Pawtucket. That said, I can't imagine the Sox not riding the hot hand here, especially since Drew is hitting .211. Drews defense has been solid, but lets be honest, Iglesias's defense is game changing. Tack on the fact that his average is literally double that of Drew (albeit with an unsustainable BABIP) and you have to let the kid play. At some point you have to say "were not going to let a 1 year deal with Drew keep us from maximizing the development of Iglesias." It's essentially the Middlebrooks/Youk situation from last year. Except I think the Sox could actually get a decent prospect for Drew.
  6. He's only 22. Jackie Bradley was 22 in high A last year, where he hit .359/.480/.526. Cecchini is hitting .357/.460/.577. Eerily similar numbers. Part of me really hopes we hang on to Cecchini. Between him, Bogaerts, Bradley, and Pedroia, we could have four guys in our order putting up OBP's in the .375-.400 range. That is how you build sustained success. Cecchini reminds me a lot of Pedroia. Very smart baserunner, high contact, excellent plate discipline, etc.
  7. Especially when you consider the following: Mike Trout at AA, age 19: .326/.414/.544 Manny Machado at AA, age 19: .266/.352/.438 Bogaerts, AA ages 19-20: .302/.371/.518 That's pretty outrageous. He's special.
  8. Have a feeling were going to be seeing 92-94 and touching 95 from Doubront tonight.
  9. However long it takes for Bogaerts to get here. Probably until August or September. It will be interesting to see if Bogaerts would make the PS roster if Middlebrooks continues to struggle and Bogaerts is wearing out AAA sometime before September.
  10. You've got a righty in Pawtucket right now hitting .306 with a .848 OPS vs LHP. He's got 10 bombs and an overall line of .284/.333/.498. Bryce Brentz would be a perfect guy to come up and play vs LHP, or all the time if need be.
  11. That's not a big splash? And while it was a salary dump, the Sox still got two very high ceiling prospects, both of which are performing extremely well in Pawtucket. If you want to argue that the Sox haven't made a big name acquisition, that's different, and its also only been 1.5 years. Big name acquisitions via trade are few and far between. The Red Sox haven't been 1 player away from being a contender while under Cherringtons watch until now, and even now, they probably don't even really need another player to be a contender.
  12. What do you call the Dodgers trade??
  13. Good thread idea. There are a ton of moving parts next year. Lester's option, salty is a FA, Ellsbury gone, etc. My guess is that the lineup will look something like: Bradley Victorino Pedroia Ortiz Bogaerts Napoli Middlebrooks Brentz Saltalamacchia Rotation of Lee Buchholz Lester Lackey Dempster. Bullpen of Bailey Tazawa De La Rosa Miller Breslow Morales Uehara Certainly looks on paper like a very good team. The biggest upgrade I would pursue would be at 1B. I can't handle the K's. I really hope the Sox inquire on Smoak this deadline, who could be a good change of scenery candidate.
  14. Bogaerts went deep again last night. He's now sitting at 5 HR on the year and 3 in his past 3 games. Maybe one of the best quotes I've ever heard from Boles, the Portland manager: @alexspeier: Kevin Boles on Xander Bogaerts: 'After this guy gets done taking BP, scouts go down to the concourse to have a smoke' http://t.co/aWy2wUJTUp
  15. The splashy move hasn't been there. The comment was about you saying that he hasn't had an inclination to make a big splashy move, which he has, the players were just unavailable. And I would certainly describe the Dodgers trade as splashy.
  16. Cherrington was inquiring on Lee during the offseason last year. And Mauer. Neither were available. Just because he didn't land the deal doesn't mean he has no inclination toward them. From MLB Trade Rumors:
  17. That's it. I'm done with Napoli. I can't take his 3 K games every other night. I'm so happy he's not on a 3 year deal. His incompetence at making consistent contact is disgusting.
  18. Horrible. Ciriaco should be playing vs CC.
  19. Turning this complete crap show off. Terrible game all around. Horrible and embarrassing. Making the Yanks look about 30x better than that are.
  20. Hopefully this quiets the 'hit Nava 2nd vs LHP' crowd. He can't hit LHP.
  21. How is this good news? That's 14 pitches per inning. That gets him through 7 easy then Robertson and Mo.
  22. This garbage is embarrassing
  23. This team is making CC look way better than he is. Horrible.
  24. Actually Tex struck out. That was an obvious and blatant missed call.
