  1. You can only resign a 40 year old so many times. You're getting one of the best hitters in the game at the age of 23 and building around him and Bogaerts, along w WMB and Bradley. I don't see how looking 1 year in the future is ridiculous.
  2. Please, tell me how I'm missing the forest for the trees. You have ONE more year of David Ortiz. Then what? Outside of Bogaerts, there are no big power bats to step in and solidify the middle of this order. Who are you going to use to solidify the #3 or #4 slot?
  3. If the Sox win, they will have a 2 game lead with 3 to play. That would all but guarantee the Sox the best record. Really need to win tonight.
  4. In regards to Nava, you're paying for future performance, not past, and it's not even debatable that Stanton will be a substantially better hitter going forward than Nava, particularly out of Miami and into Fenway. His defense is also extremely overblown. He has had a positive UZR in 2 of his 4 seasons. Plus sticking him in LF alleviates the issue. Yes. You do need him. In 1 year, Ortiz is likely going to be done. This team needs to build a young, powerful middle of the order both for next year, and for years after that. Having Bogaerts, Stanton, and Middlebrooks gives you 3 30 HR bats in the middle of your order for the next 4-6 years. This isn't a '2014' move. The reason you pay so much is so that you have that cornerstone bat that you need when Ortiz leaves.
  5. Plus the Sox farm pre-2011 was much weaker than it is now. Much much thinner.
  6. Not really. Per BA, pre-2011 Rankings: Kelly: 31 Rizzo: 75 Fuentes: Unranked, 2009 1st rounder. The Sox still gave up a lot of talent for Adrian Gonzalez. But you're certainly going to have to give up a bit more for a 23 year old superstar corner OF.
  7. 1. My suggested package is Cecchini, Ranaudo, Swihart, and Betts. 1 top 20, 2 top 50's, and a top 100 (likely top 75, maybe top 50). You can absolutely get Stanton without giving up Bogaerts or Bradley, that's how deep the system is right now. 2. First off, getting stanton doesn't even really affect this because he's under team control until 2017, so you don't have to give him 25mm a year. But I would have Salty or McCann at C, Abreu (4/60) at 1B or Napoli (1/13) if you can't get Abreu, Pedroia, Bogaerts, Middlebrooks, Stanton (LF), Bradley (CF), Victorino (RF). Lineup: Victorino - Pedroia - Stanton - Ortiz - Abreu/Nap - Salty/McCann - Middlebrooks - Bogaerts - Bradley
  8. Because waiting lets someone else swoop in and steal a future MVP bat in the outfield away from you. With Stanton and Bogaerts on this team, you've got a chance of having two perennial MVP candidates on your team. And the beauty of having surplus talent is trading the pieces while they're still valuable and turning them into a Stanton type player.
  9. Gonzalez was 1. One year away from FA, and 2. Six (!!!!) years older than Stanton when we traded for him. With 2 fewer years of control.
  10. Mike Trout has certainly shown nothing short of being a generational talent. He's put up back to back 10 fWAR seasons. That's pretty outrageous, so yeah, as of right now, he's on pace to be as good as any of them.
  11. I have no idea how retaining Middlebrooks, Bogaerts, Bradley, Owens, Ball, Denney, Vazquez, Barnes or Ranaudo, Webster, RDLR, Workman, Marrero is putting the future of the organization in 1 player. Just makes no sense.
  12. Because he's not hitting FA until 2017? You're getting 3 extra years of a cost controlled 40+ HR corner outfielder?
  13. It's 4 players, all of which are either blocked or have a surplus of talent along with them. Barnes/Ranaudo? Still have Owens, Ball, Barnes/Ranaudo (whoever doesn't go), Webster, Workman. Swihart? Still have Vazquez, who, in AA had more BB than K, as well as Lavarnway and Jon Denney. Betts? Pedroia. Period. Cecchini is the only player here that you would be getting rid of where he could feasibly push someone out (Middlebrooks) and it could affect this team. Let's not go over the top here. We're not trading for an overpaid and underperforming player. This is a cornerstone player, at the ripe age of 23. Comparing this to the Dodgers is ridiculous. It's not even close Pal, come on.
  14. I'm sorry. Did you just say he's not a good fit for Boston?? He has posted a .370 OBP this year. He posted a .361 OBP last year. AND HE'S 23.
  15. Manny through age 23: 130 wRC+, .243 ISO. Stanton through age 23: 139 wRC+, .272 ISO. At this point in their respective careers, not only is Stanton as good as Manny, he's better
  16. Manny through age 23: 133 OPS+, 50 HR, average 162 game season: 33 HR Stanton through age 23: 139 OPS+, 117 HR, Average 162 game season: 39 HR. He is just as talented as Manny was by his age.
  17. I would 110% make the trade that I suggested for Stanton, even if he has had a few injury concerns. He's as good as Manny.
  18. So if he's not going to spend money on talent, then he isn't going to extend Stanton, so he's going to have to trade him. And he has actually has gotten the proper returns for a lot of players (see: HanRam, Sanchez, etc.). You're taking the ownership and going to the extreme with them. They're going to trade Stanton and they're going to take the best return, not just 1 sexy player that leaves them in the basement.
  19. If they were more worried about attendance than about rebuilding, they wouldn't have traded all of those players for prospects. Period. That's it.
  20. If they wanted to sell tickets, they would have never traded Reyes Buehrle Johnson, and the entire crew that went to Toronto. You're theory is completely contradictory to anything and everything they've done.
  21. Because the Marlins are going to compete next year? Come on man. This is preposterous. You're implying that, only a year after dumping Reyes, Buehrle, etc, they're not going to make a trade that gives them players who are prime, young talents during the span when they will be most likely to compete because of bad PR?? I can't even comprehend your logic it's so fallible.
  22. This is ridiculous. The Marlins aren't going to be like "Oh, you won't trade us Bogearts? Fine, we'll deal to another team and take a lesser package but get their best prospect". That's silly reasoning by you.
  23. Ranaudo is, what, 10-15 AAA starts away from being MLB ready? Cecchini will start the year in AAA. Betts and Swihart both will start the year in AA and could well advance to AAA by the end of the season, and be up by mid-2015. And yes. The Marlins do need to trade him sooner rather than later. This is a guy who is going to absolutely demand a 25mm/year contract when he hits FA. The closer to FA you get, the less you get in prospects. That's simple. Point blank, the offer that I proposed is the best offer they will get right now. And the offers are only going to go down in value the longer that the Marlins hang on to him.
  24. Please, tell me who is going to give the Marlins more than 3 top 50's and a top 60-75?? EDIT: A top 20 (Cecchini), 2 top 50's (Swihart, Ranaudo), and a top 75 (Betts). The problem is, NOBODY HAS THAT KIND OF A FARM SYSTEM. The only team that can outbid the Marlins would be the Cardinals, but they've got Tavares waiting in the wings and they're not going to trade for Stanton. If you take Bogaerts and Bradley out of the picture, the Red Sox still make the absolute best offer to the Marlins, hands down. And working on an extension with Stanton? Please man. He absolutely hates it there. That guy can't wait to hit FA and get out of Florida.
  25. You do realize that Stanton would mishit 45 HR's when playing in the AL East and more specifically Fenway, no? He's Manny Ramirez 2.0. And he's 23. Having him and Bogaerts locked up would be one of the best #3/#4 hitter combos for years and years to come.
