    It wasn't a hit and run. It was trying to either A get Ortiz into scoring position or B get Gomes another AB to start next inning, given he had about an 8 pitch AB to that point, he would be able to drive up the pitch count again.

    No need to keep all 3, particularly with Garin Cecchini on the JBJ highway to Boston. Cecchini will be starting in AAA next year and plays 3B as well. He will be able to come up by May or June and play if Middlebrooks isn't getting it done. They've got some solid depth on the left side of the infield with Marrero (probably a year away), Cecchini (will be available in 2014), Bogaerts (starting SS), and Middlebrooks (starting 3B). There's no reason to give Drew a multi-year deal (probably 3/36) for insurance. I'd much rather see them allocate that money to an area of bigger need (Abreu at 1b?) than to spend it on an area where we have significant depth.

    You went to the wrong hot dog stand. The best hot dogs are basically in the LF corner of the concourse, where they also have vegetarian options (for directional purposes only, I'm not a vegetarian). They have grilled footlongs (not boiled hot dogs). Throw on some peppers and onions, absolutely delicious.

    This team was pressing as bad as I've ever seen a team press yesterday, basically until Pedroia hit that wall ball double. I completely expect much, much more competitive at bats tomorrow afternoon, even against Verlander. My best guess is that the Sox, after the layoff, were off a bit, then Sanchez was on top of his game, and it just exacerbated things. By the time G2 rolled around, things just got worse and everyone was trying to hit a 5 run homer with nobody on base. Getting that first W and getting a bunch of knocks is really going to loosen up this offense.

    If half his numbers were before the league got the scouting out on him, then the other half was after the league got the scouting report on him. And if his first half numbers are good, and his 2nd half numbers are, by definition, identical to the first half, how are they bad? Look, he scuffled a bit to start the season, yes, but as Pal pointed out, he posted an .805 OPS since being recalled. He's still developing, certainly, but early signs indicate he could be a very solid power hitter out of the #6 or #7 slot.
