  1. This article is post-deal, just like I said. I'm not saying it wasn't well known that Theo wanted Gonzalez because it was, but Theo and the Sox FO never came out and said it before the deal was struck
  2. And I've given you the reports so many times before. Here. http://joefrisaro.mlblogs.com/2013/07/30/could-red-sox-sway-marlins-to-move-stanton/ http://www.overthemonster.com/2013/7/30/4571362/red-sox-trade-rumors-giancarlo-stanton-marlins You act as if I just make up these reports out of thin air. You refuse to believe reported information. If anyone is trying to follow a narrative and refuses to accept information because it doesn't fit a narrative, it's you.
  3. I still don't remember any pre-deal/post-negotiation disclosure of interest by the Red Sox directly. So my point stands that it hasn't happened. And your whole point was that Theo disclosed his interest in both Tex and AGon. He's not here, that was my only point of the comment.
  4. Not to mention that this isn't Theo, this is Cherrington, who was as silent as he could possibly be about the Dodgers trade until it was finalized. But no, stick to your narrative excuse
  5. Before the negotiations ended?? I remember him admitting to have gone after Tex and about Gonzalez being a good for after the 2009 season, that's it.
  6. It's not the narrative that has anything to do with anything. It's that the Sox are always cryptic about any moves they make before it's final. They won't even comment on deals that are going through physicals
  7. I don't remember either of these confirmations at all. I have never heard the Sox say they 'are going after player X' prior to any resolution to the negotiations. Saying 'player X would be a good fit' is not even close to being the same either
  8. It was reported by beat writers, but neither Theo nor the Red Sox organization came out. It was reported just as the Sox interest in Stanton has been reported but never confirmed.
  9. Can't tell if serious....
  10. Link please.
  11. Adrian Gonzalez was also coming off front shoulder surgery which has been known to completely zap power, we can't just ignore that.
  12. When have they ever come out and said anything they've ever done??
  13. Huge difference between winning the offseason and landing a young superstar
  14. Perhaps you're right on the Marlins not giving him up. But there have already been reports that the Sox will do whatever it takes to get him. I'm sure they won't give up Bogaerts but outside of that, I don't think anyone is off limits.
  15. Sure, and I'm not comparing packages. I'm talking about how prospects fizzle. Often enough that they shouldn't keep you from acquiring a superstar, particularly one that, when you put Stanton together with Bogaerts, you've got two cornerstone players that you build a dynasty around, and they are 21 and 24.
  16. He hit 35 in 2011 and 37 in 2012. If he was on the Sox, I would 100% make a bet with you that he would hit 40.
  17. You're not emptying the farm. The farm is as flush as it's been in a long, long time. Even a package around Cecchini, Swihart, Barnes, Ranaudo, and Doubront leaves you with Betts, Bradley, Bogaerts, Owens, Ball, Vazquez, Margot (breakout candidate, seriously pay attention), Workman, Webster, Marrero. You can't just hoard all of your prospects. Half of the point of loading up your farm is to make deals for proven talents. Look at the Adrian Gonzalez deal. Does it suck that we don't have those prospects still? I mean, really, does it? Rey Fuentes: Never broke any top 100 lists, hasn't done anything at the MLB level. Casey Kelly: TJS before 2013, dropping on most prospect listings. Anthony Rizzo: Shows promise but has really fizzled in the bigs so far. Point being, prospects fizzle out and a lot of times you do better by trading them for a proven piece than to sit and watch them fizzle.
  18. 1. Stanton, age 20-23 by wRC+: 118, 141, 156, 135 ManRam, age 20-23 by wRC+: 30, 120, 145, 140 Did you like Manny's 2001 season with the Red Sox? .301/.405/.609, 41 HR, 125 RBI? He posted a 156 wRC+ that year. He was 56% better than the league in wOBA. Showed the same level of dominance as Stanton did at the age of 22. So....yeah. Can't really say that he's not as good of a hitter when he's actually outperformed Manny thus far in his career as it relates to the league. Given, Manny probably wasn't juicing at that point, but even without the juice, Manny was a generational hitter. Stanton is the same. 2. Until you can quantify the actual value of each of the individual prospects future success (i.e., predict the future), you're never going to be able to stack value up properly against the price tag.
  19. You don't think going from Marlins Park or whatever that albatross is called to Fenway would improve his numbers?!?
  20. The whole premise of trading for him is predicated by not giving up Xander. You would at the very least have 4 years of cost controlled production to determine if Boston suits him before extending him. Extensions after 4 years of service are extremely different than free agent signings. Sticking him in LF at Fenway would take a ton of leg work off of him and would certainly benefit any health related issues.
  21. Closing in on FA?? He hasn't even entered arbitration until this year. EDIT: I'm sorry. He doesn't even get to his 1st year of arbitration until NEXT year!!! He's not a FA until 2017. They say they're not trading him of course. They would lose every bit of leverage they have if they don't. Again, he's not a FA until 2017. That's 4 seasons away, at which point the Red Sox have $16.125mm obligated right now. His injury concerns have lead him to a 135 wRC+ and a 156 wRC+ over the past two years. Simply put, he's the best RH power hitter not named Miguel Cabrera. You put him in Fenway and you get Manny Ramirez production.
  22. Yeah but Stanton had a "down year" and posted a 135 wRC+ at the age of 23, and has hit 117 HR already in his career. And he's been playing an enormous field for the past 2 seasons, and in a division with Citi.
  23. I 100% agree. Any move involving Xander is off the table, even Stanton.
  24. Well, I certainly think the Red Sox should make that offer and see what the Marlins say in return. I would be willing to add Middlebrooks or Doubront to that offer, too, if it was a deal breaker. As stated, the Marlins would get a Top 25 (Cecchini), 2 top 50's (Barnes, Ranaudo), and a certain top 100 (Betts) prospect. I wouldn't want to deal Swihart but if I had to deal Swihart in there rather than Betts, he's a top 50 guy as well, so now you've got 3 top 50's, a top 25, and Doubront or Middlebrooks.
  25. Absolutely. The Red Sox can beat any other package without giving up Bogaerts. And probably without giving up Owens, either. Their farm is well beyond stocked and top heavy right now.
