  1. We don't need a SS. We need a SP.
  2. But it's somehow more valid to use his splits while he was playing with the Royals rather than using the splits while he was playing at Fenway, which is where he will play this year?
  3. That's his platoon for the season. He was a much better hitter when he came to Boston.
  4. Aviles?? You mean the .317/.340/.436 hitter for BOS last year? Hmm.. I'll take that black hole at SS any day.
  5. The highest prediction I've seen for him has him at a 3.43 ERA. His stuff is undeniable. And he's been through the league a few times so he's polished too. It's going to be exciting to see him pitch.
  6. I call bleacherreport a huge mistake. Anyone can write an article on that website.
  7. To be completely honest, I wouldn't mind putting Iglesias there, watching him steal base hits and prevent runs, and throw him in the 9 slot and let him hit .210/.280/.320 all season. I don't care about his bat. We really need a glove up the middle. Can you imagine the plays that Pedroia and Iglesias would make as a middle infield combo??!?
  8. I sure as hell hope so. That would be incredible. Hamels is an absolute beast. But I'd be shocked if the Phils dished him. And who would they want in return? They are looking to win now, so it would need to be a guy like Ellsbury. After seeing Kalish and Crawford in surgery, I can't justify risking Ellsbury in a trade. But if we could get away with some top prospects (including Bogaerts), I'd be fine with it.
  9. That's the thing. People don't realize this. I've heard entirely too much about how this team needs to strip down and rebuild. It makes zero sense to me. Sure, if our top 5 pitchers were Lester/Beckett/Wakefield/Miller/Weiland, we would need to shed a piece or two and make a big trade for a SP. But that's not our rotation. People are frustrated with his lack of activity this offseason. Well, coming off an offseason like last year, and on a strict budget, I think he's done well. If he signs Oswalt, I would say this team is in better shape than last season's team was.
  10. Exactly, and look how quickly the talks "heated up" on Oswalt after the trade. It was almost instantaneous. And I can't stress this enough. It's pretty obvious that the Red Sox were consistently in touch with Oswalt, and telling him to just wait while they clear up some payroll and they'll give him the 1/$8mm he wants. Otherwise the guy would have signed by now. Oswalt for 1/8mm is an absolute steal. Especially for a team who is looking for a veteran guy (i.e. the Royals) or a team who needs one more piece to their rotation (i.e. everyone).
  11. Pretty obvious, but here's the story. Again, the writing is all over the wall on this signing. It makes entirely too much sense not to happen. I would be shocked if a deal wasn't done by the end of the weekend. Hell, I'd be surprised if it wasn't done by the end of the night.
  12. You think Gonzo will only hit 27 HR next year? You think maybe, just maybe, he'll slug a little better than .489 in the 2nd half? You really, honestly think Crawford is going to hit .255 again? Come on man. Be realistic. And if Punto was replacing Pedroia, I'd say we were going to have a decrease. It's Aviles replacing Scutaro. It's a wash. You act like we had some all star RF last season that is irreplaceable. You say our offense is going to struggle because we have Aviles and Sweeney starting, and then back that by saying that Ellsbury and Ortiz won't hit the same. Make up your mind dude. Ellsbury and Ortiz may not hit as well as they did in 2011, but 1. Our pitching got a hell of a lot better, and 2. Our RF got a hell of a lot better, even if it is just Sweeney.
  13. He's already gotten interview requests from The Globe.
  14. It's funny, isn't it, how long it's taken Oswalt to "make a decision" on where he's going to play?? For 1 year/8mm, he's an absolute steal. It's almost like he was waiting and waiting and waiting for the Sox to free up payroll so they could sign him. Writing is all over the wall.
  15. Because last season, you know, the season when we lead the league in almost every single MLB category, our RF hit a combined .233/.299/.353 last season. Crawford hit .255/.289/.405. Wow. Talk about a massive hit in production with Sweeney (who, if he plays to the back of his baseball card, would give our RF position a 70 point bump in OPS), and Aviles (who OPS'd .775 since playing for the Sox, vs Crawfords .694 OPS). I don't see at all how our offense got any worse since last year with the production we got out of RF and LF last season.
  16. Lester - Beckett - Buchholz - Oswalt - Bard rotation with Wilson/Melancon/Morales/Aceves/Bailey at the back of that bullpen? That's a pretty sick rotation and pen. And we got Clay Mortenson, who posted a 117 ERA+ over 56 IP last season for the Rockies. He provides good depth along with Aceves, Wilson, Doubront, Cook, and Silva.
  17. YESSSS!!!!! I love this deal. And now we can go sign Oswalt!!! It's a beautiful thing!!!!
  18. I did not. I'm actually not sure where to get those numbers. If they are over $2-3mm, then we're already over the LT threshold, and we should just go after Oswalt
