  1. The biggest thing I'm worried about is the media going over the top with him. Meaning - following him after a game to see if he goes to a watering hole or if he goes to a normal restaurant/home. Rather than acting like sports reporters, acting like paparazzi's. I think the Boston media has really overstepped their boundaries in recent years (see: Francona story), and I think they'd take it to another level with him. I would absolutely love for him to come play in Boston, and I really hope he does. But if he was my brother, I would tell him to stay away.
  2. Uehara was a very underrated, but absolutely fantastic pick up. He really, really helps the back end of this bullpen. This pen has the chance to be elite elite. Bailey/Bard/Aceves/Tazawa/Uehara/Breslow/Miller If Bard can find his 2011 form, and Aceves gets locked back into his proper role, this could be the best pen in the league. And if one of them can't get it done, you've got 100 mph De La Rosa sitting in your back pocket. Side note - One of the most incredible stats I've ever seen - Over the past 3 years (145 IP), Uehara has a 10.76 K:BB ratio. Try to fathom that. It's almost impossible. 11.4 K/9, 1.1 BB/9.
  3. Sox will top that no prob. They'll give him 3/80-84. I think they are keeping the significance of their interest in him under wraps. As soon as Greinke signs w Texas, the Sox will be allllll over Hamilton, just watch.
  4. Jen Royle reporting that Hamilton is the only position player that the Sox are focused on. Everything else is SP. They certainly seem to be a lot more interested in Hamilton than they're letting on.
  5. Brian Wilson will be ready by Spring Training, according to Tim Brown. Tim Brown ‏@TBrownYahoo Source: Brian Wilson has been told by surgeon James Andrews that he will be cleared for spring training and ready by opening day. Sox need to move on that. Quickly.
  6. Sean McAdam reporting that the meeting with Hamilton was after the Victorino signing. Interesting.
  7. Mirosi just said that the meeting between the Sox and Hamilton went great. I really can't believe that the Rangers have just put Hamilton on the back burner and nobody is striking. Give him 3 with an option and get him in Boston. And you don't have to trade Ellsbury if you sign Hamilton, either. An OF of Hamilton - Ellsbury - Victorino, with Gomes as your 4th OF would be fantastic.
  8. Sox met with Hamilton while he was in Nashville, confirmed by Mirosi. His market is going to disintegrate soon, as soon as the Rangers sign Greinke. Hamilton won't want to go to Seattle. Sox will give him setting like 3/84 with a 20mm option and a 10mm buyout and he will land in Boston.
  9. Ellsbury isn't going to get a huge haul unless they add other pieces. The type of trade the Sox would be looking at would be a trade for Lincecum. Couple guys coming off questionable seasons, left with 1 year until FA.
  10. Wonder if the Braves would be interested in Ells + 1 for Teheran or Delgado. Also wonder if the DBacks would be interested in Ells + 1 for Bauer, assuming they deal Upton.
  11. Texas has put the Hamilton talks on hold while they go after Greinke. Now is the perfect time to swoop in and tell Hamilton "Hey. We value you as our #1. We're not going to make you wait. Come sign with us".
  12. Phils and DBacks don't match up well.
  13. Just to be clear - Farrell keeps saying the Sox "haven't shut the door on any free agent SP". Could they be a darkhorse for Greinke?
  14. Gordon Edes ‏@GordonEdes You can put the rumors of Ellsbury-for-Cliff Lee to rest. "Not a prayer," source said. Lets wait until Bourn signs. Then we'll see how interested the Phillies would be in getting a CF, which they're desperate for.
  15. That very well could do it, too.
  16. Could very, very well be the case. Can you imagine. Ellsbury + Bradley for Lee. Sign Hamilton at 4/100. This team would be insane.
  17. Lee is still an elite, elite SP. He's good for a low 3's ERA every year. For a team who is in as bad of shape as the Sox are, Vargas wouldn't get close to fixing the rotation. Lee fixes it almost instantly. And you have De La Rosa as your #6 man. I would pull the trigger on a deal of Bradley + Ellsbury for Lee + $2-3mm annually.
  18. Give me Cliff Lee, all day, everyday. You want a bonafide ace? You gotta pony up. Going to take Ellsbury + 1 top prospect (I would think Bradley). Cliff Lee is a guy who turns this team right back into a contender. Instantly.
  19. Seriously. Then go sign Nick Swisher for RF/1B.
  20. link please? I would be beyond thrilled if this happened.
  21. Pete Abe reporting that multiple sources have told him that the Sox are listening on Ellsbury.
  22. The AL East is a pretty heavy hitters division, too, in terms of ballparks. Much more than the NL West, to be certain.
  23. Good point by Pete Abe - Torii Hunter, who is 5 years older than Shane Victorino, got 2 years at $13mm per year. The market is what it is.
  24. not getting a lot of positive feedback on that idea. gonna go ahead and trash the idea.
