  1. I believe this is what you're talking about. http://cdn.fangraphs.com/not/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/swishstrikeoutsonanasty.gif
  2. Agree - I wouldn't give the ball to him in a tight game. But if it's a 3 run game in the 7th and Uehara threw the day before, I wouldn't have any qualms giving the ball to Bard for the 7th, then Taz and Bailey in the 8th and 9th. If Bard can just be effective, not dominant, just an effective reliever, that helps out a ton. With Hanrahan, Breslow, and Morales all on the shelf right now, our bullpen got really thin really fast. Taz, Uehara, and Bailey have been used a lot (which is nice because that means we're generally winning a lot of games, but you cannot wear them down). Having Bard as an extra effective arm in there could be extremely helpful.
  3. Averaged 94.21 mph with his FB. Maxed at 96.11. Also had over 7 inches of run to it, which is ridiculous. Here is his velocity tracker. You can see pitches 2-4 were all at 96. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/cache/speed.php-pitchSel=453268&game=gid_2013_04_25_houmlb_bosmlb_1&batterX=&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=.gif I thought it was a solid outing. I don't remember his fastball running as much as it did last night, but I looked it up and that's pretty consistent with how much it's always run.
  4. Middlebrooks made more solid contact in that last AB then he has in the past week combined.
  5. He threw yesterday. I hie we don't see him. If so we will also see Taz and Bailey.
  6. Methinks we might see Bard tonight
  7. Disgusting. Can't wait for Aceves to be gone. He has punched his ticket out of town as soon as Morales and Breslow are back.
  8. Sorry you had to go through that and glad everything is cleared up. Know it had to be scary. Looks like they're going to try to get it in. Gonna be sloppy, but the A's don't get back here this year. Could be a sloppy game, like that extra inning loss to the Angels in 2011 that went on until like 2 am bc of rainouts, but they'll get it in somehow. Just be sure to be winning after 5.
  9. Keith Law said that if Webster can harness his control, he's got ace potential. That's not a word you hear a lot of scouts use, because it's an elite status. I agree with Chad Finn - I think that this rotation is soon going to see a top 4 of Lester - Buchholz - Webster - Dempster, and either Lackey or Doubront at the end. Devils Advocate - Do you trade Webster and Bogaerts (plus another mid level guy or two - Lavarnway and Cecchini?) for Mike Stanton?
  10. Not sure they're going to be able to get this one in tonight, looks like a lot of rain headed this way, but the Sox don't host the A's again this year so I'm not sure what they're going to do. If they don't get this in, I'm sure the Sox will just skip Aceves' start and go with Lester tomorrow. That'd probably be best case scenario.
  11. I think it's more of a reflection that 2 of his 3 starts have come against the Astros.
  12. Quick update: It took 19 games for Napoli to reach 4 HR and 25 RBI. Last year, it took Gonzalez 47 games to reach the same mark (oddly enough, he hit a HR that drove in his 25th RBI that game). I remember last year a lot of people were worried that Gonzalez's RBI production would be hard to replace. So far, all that worrying was for nothing.
  13. Generally speaking, yes. But there are cases like Salty, where it's almost 2.0 SLG%, and others like a typical Nava or a guy like Iglesias where it's more around 1:1 ratio, but OPS doesn't account for those differently. I 100% agree that wOBA and wRC+ are much more in depth stats, I just have grown to really dislike OPS because of the weight issues.
  14. Haha I had actually already looked it up after all this 5th inning talk.
  15. Things I don't miss: Lowrie glaring at ump after watching pitch down the middle called a strike.
  16. I think I posted it, maybe I was just thinking it. Webster is going to replace Doubront very soon.
  17. 5.32 ERA last year, 13.50 this year coming into this start
  18. Doubront + Aceves = 21-24 outs required from pen in 2 straight starts = late season implosion.
  19. Oh good at least that was weak contact. #notweakcontact
  20. What is going on?!?!? This is the bad news bears
  21. Get out of here Doubront. I'd much rather see Webster.
  22. Oh crap there's only 1 out. Great.
