All of you who are calling it a steal, maybe it is, but the Marlins don't get to have Torres in return when Yankees are picking up so much of the jack. That's just trade 101. If I was Stanton I would refuse to waive the no-trade and stay in Miami for the duration, bleeding them dry. Sure I'd never win a championship, but I hate the Marlins and I'm a vindictive S.O.B.

I was reading ESPN's conjecture today (that's all they print nowadays) that the Yankees would insist on Ellsbury going the other way in the deal. Not a bad haul if they can swing it. But they're trying to stay below the tax barrier, remember? wink, wink.

If I was Boston I'd say to Miami we may be interested in Stanton but strictly in exchange for cash - no players. And he waives the opt out. Then battle on exactly how much of the contract Miami eats. It really should be a buyer's market here with that albatross of a contract. But before I do that, I'm looking elsewhere first.

Stanton's contract is too much heat. I think it's a sticking point for any trade partner unless Miami eats a fair portion, and Stanton tears up the get out of jail free card.
