  1. What would be the odds at this stage?
  2. Have you ever thought about picking another team that's not as high maintenance to follow as this?
  3. Not gonna lie - I don't know that I can name a single Braves hitter. Andrelton Simmons? Is he still on the team? As for pitching, I know they have Shelby Miller. Is Teheran still on their roster?
  4. Can I point out that the Pirates used a computer once to fill out their lineup and it said bat Tike Redman third. Computers can only do so much, the rest is the guys on the field, and to put Hanley in a situation he has never been in before, and figure it's easy, was a gross miscalculation. He's always had a knock against him: selfish, lazy, bad fielder, etc. We are seeing here that he isn't by all accounts putting effort into his fielding, he's afraid of the wall f***ing up his shoulder, and he often has his head up his ass when the game calls for paying strict attention. It's unfortunate that his salary is so high to make a trade unlikely, and the other (only other) alternative is have him at DH which means Papi sits. Or do we ride out a year of totally butchered LF defense and then, ensuring Papi's option doesn't vest, install Hanley at DH full time. If we must keep both we're probably best off with him at DH and Panda at 1B. But as has been pointed out, Panda doesn't really hit enough for a 3B/1B anyway.
  5. The Padres fired their manager for 1 game under .500 (which makes me think something else is going on) but Farrell gets a free pass for ten games under? It's not all on him, and I believe the manager's influence on results is minimal, but there's only so many times he can say "it's not lack of effort, we didn't execute properly" and coming off as Polyannaish about the team.
  6. Although mathematically you may be correct, do you honestly think the Phillies are making the playoffs this year?
  7. Yeah, sounds like fun with everyone bitching about Fred not making the next day's thread, and all the back and forth now about who has the best mojo etc. It's baseball, the best team loses over a third of its games, THERE IS NO f***ING MOJO.
  8. Like what? They blew their load on Porcello and Hanley and Panda. Ben's not gonna deal them away, even paying a ton of the freight. What other moves can they make, considering Hanley and Panda are two of the biggest problems?
  9. Lemme get this straight because I am not watching the games... Bases loaded yesterday, screaming line drive was caught, and Hanley is 10 feet off the bag at second and didn't even dive back? This guy just cannot get his head in the game, he's a g.d. liability in all three phases, including swinging for the fences regardless of situation. They need to get him off the roster asap. Can't do that with Ben still here, it will be admitting his mistake.
  10. Padres fired their manager and they're only 1 game below .500. Seems strange timing, with plenty of baseball still to go.
  11. With an actual plan and some intelligent moves this time.
  12. I apologize. Sarcasm is impossible to detect sometimes.
  13. This may be the stupidest thing you've ever posted, and God knows, it has plenty of competition on that front.
  14. So Game 6 tickets are going for $1,000 - and that's for standing room only. Just another in a long line of sports championships where the crowd is made up of people spending money they can't afford and casual/non-fans just wanting to be seen.
  15. Pinch-hitting for Papi with the .170 hitter must surely be the last nail in his coffin. Hang them up, David.
  16. Can we stop calling this a talented roster because clearly it's not. There are too many holes. I keep hearing about the team being built to mash. Power goes into slumps, very often. If you want to build a team on hitting, you have GOT to have high obp players, but they aren't sexy for Boston. Ben has learned zero from Crawford's disastrous contract and is continuing to make moron moves, swayed by flashy name players with big price tags. This is the Yankees of the early 00s again.
  17. Maybe his ceiling is 4th OF/defensive replacement. Unless you really can get away with his subpar bat for superior CF defense. There must be some advance stats on how many runs he saves?
  18. Ben saw Panda and Hanley as shiny new toys. That's a Yankees type of mistake, bro.
  19. Well Panda's fielding is responsible for 9 more runs than league average, for starters.
  20. So you're saying this streak is your fault?
  21. I only realized today exactly how much they are paying Hanley to play out of position. Wow.
  22. Sox would have to pick up more than some at $22mil/year.
  23. Just one more loss for the magical 10 games under .500.
  24. I've gotten to the point where I can't give a f*** if they win or lose. The season is over as far as I'm concerned. Yes, they could go on some ridiculous winning streak and make the playoffs but that seems like a very remote possibility.
