  1. Nonsense to all of you. Seriously... You wussy arm loving cream-puffs are working my last nerve. I sometimes wonder which posters have the vaginas on this board.
  2. Clay's on the mound. Yeah! What I would have done.
  3. Yes he probably is neutered. Hence the name Nancy. :harhar:
  4. Her nylons were too tight, she bought a bigger size and will play tonight.
  5. With the way Beckett's been pitching, Wakefield will be a step up. And now HOPEFULLY once Beckett gets his health problems straightened out we'll start seeing the "real" Beckett that is supposed to be an Ace.
  6. When interleague play started it was to increase fan interest and much needed revenue. We all thought it was a fad and most of us enjoyed it in that vein. A necessary evil to raise the sport's profile and something new to have fun with for a short period. Now don't get me wrong I too got a big kick out of watching pitchers hit (for a few games) until after a few games you got tired of the giggles and realised it just took offense out of the game and called for more substitutions. These days, I'm just sick of it. It takes away games that could better be spent playing teams we rarely get to see, like the Twins or the Tigers, where there is rivalry or a history. It kills a bit of the thrill of watching the World Series. And as with everything, it's over-hyped because it's interleague - when in reality it's usually quite dull because it's two teams that have very little history and therefore no rivalry. Do you like interleague play?
  7. POOP! I can't edit thread names. Yeszir you big tease!
  8. All those empty seats is one of the things that prompted me to start the rivalry thread.
  9. Wasn't just you... your eyes are working fine. I'm sure the weather had a lot to do with it but damn you just don't expect an empty seat with Sox/Yanks. BTW... thanks for the article on Drew.
  10. Ok... Quick scan of the sports pages didn't come up with anything on Drew's injury. Anyone heard anything?
  11. Yes, that was the one the Spaceman was injured in: I remember the fight but I can't remember if I saw it live or on replays. "May 20, 1976: Yankee outfielder Lou Piniella crashes into Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk feet first in an attempt to score in the sixth inning of a game at Yankee Stadium. The two benches clear while Piniella and Fisk brawl at home plate. After the fight apparently dies down and order appears to be restored, Sox pitcher Bill Lee and Yankee third baseman Graig Nettles begin exchanging words, and another fight breaks out. Lee suffers a separated left shoulder from the tilt and misses a significant portion of the 1976 season. He would continue to pitch until 1982, but his level of performance is not the same as it was prior to the fight." But still I think this was my favorite. I remember it well, even though I only heard it on the radio. They only televised one game a week outside of Boston in those days. Radio was TV. "August 1, 1973: In a game at Fenway Park, with the score tied 2–2 in the top of the 9th, Yankees catcher Thurman Munson attempts to score from third base on a missed bunt by Gene Michael. He crashes into Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk, and a fight erupts, with Munson punching Fisk in the face."
  12. True enough.. except I think this valley has been caused by outside factors and will not peak again.
  13. In my opinion... NO! 1). It's over-hyped. Whenever you beat something to death it turns people away. The Networks, in trying to beef up ratings, always tout the Yanks vs. the Sox as a battle to the death, people loathe that much hyperbole. Furthermore, as we all know, even the Sox/Yanks play the ocassional snooze fest. 2). We play each other too many times a year. When they changed the schedule a few years back - so East plays East more - and West plays West more -.... I think it was a huge mistake. While I'm not a huge fan of Royals/Red Sox - I'm not any more of a fan of Blue Jays/Red Sox. It takes away some of the imporance of each Sox/Yankee game by there now be so many more (too many). 3). These Yankees just ain't ugly enough. They used to be a team you could really HATE, not just want to beat but to end up bloodied on the battlefield, deserted by family and forced to live in shame.. Now they're the manicured set of nice guy Jeter and Mr. Rivera the class of baseball. note: Although I do have to say Joba the Hut and A-rod do give me hope for the future - 'cause you can really sink your teeth into despising these two guys. What's your opinion on the rivaly? As good as the bad old days? Better? or Just as intense but different?
  14. The no-hitter thread still pisses me off - not because it was about baseball but because I think it's about a shift in morality between the generations. I think it's scary, dangerous and I'm glad I'm 46 and will not have to live through too many of the societal repurcussions. However there are children I love out there and my heart breaks for them.
  15. "Saying your point is more valid doesn't make it more valid." Of course it does, I'm older and wiser. he's a bad tactician, and it's a thing basically everyone agrees on But in most cases he's handling the pitchers correctly. No he's not a great in-game manager and can often be second guessed but I've been on this board long enough to know that you guys would pull the pitcher at the first man in scoring position. Francona is right, usually, when it comes to pulling the pitchers for ALL the reasons I've already stated. "You're the ones putting words in my mouth" Yup! Did it on purpose. Sucks doesn't it.
  16. 1). I've already been over this. I disagree. My point is more valid and I'm tired of typing the same thing over and over so you can regurgitate the same point over and over. I have even addressed the "struggling". 2). Don't put words in my mouth. That pisses me off. This is about baseball not Francona. You hate Francona so refuse to accept he could be doing anything that was a standard in baseball - because it's tried and true and the right thing to do. I harken back to the days of Jimy Williams who was Francona-bizarro. He pulled every pitcher at 100 pitches no matter how damn good he was doing and it cost the Sox a LOT of games and beat the bullpen to the ground. And you see how many World Series Williams won.
