  1. A healthy and effective Buchholz pushes out Peavy. Hopefully we see him pitch like old Buchholz.
  2. Breslow has been very good, except for a few outings. He has given up 11 earned runs in 28 games... but 9 of those runs came from only two games.
  3. Three hits on Felix in the first. Crazy. Its a shame Nava is going to ground to short here.
  4. I don't have any inside information. I see a team with World Series caliber starting pitching, relief pitching, and a few good bats. I hold to the one more bat theory... One more outfield bat will turn this team into a contender.
  5. Don't look now, but the Red Sox are only 6.5 back on the division. #onemorebat
  6. He is a 26 year old lefty with high career strikeout numbers with three more controlled years. He also had that crazy streak of around 15-20 QS starts in a row last year, so he definitely will have value to a team somewhere.
  7. Cherrington needs to get on the phone and start looking for teams that are interested in Buchholz/Peavy/Doubront. There is no reason for these guys to be starting over Workman/RDLR. Absolutely none.
  8. In fantasy baseball, I was up by exactly 1 total bases, and 1 RBI. David Ortiz is on the opposing team. I say to myself... screw it, Ortiz hit a home run. I am annoyed and satisfied at the same time.
  9. Time to trade Doubront. Maybe they can get a decent reliever or package him up for an outfielder.
  10. Fred deserves a My Little Pony avatar if he doesn't start this one.
  11. Ortiz is a whiner, and he always has been. He has complained about his contract every year for the last five years, and that isn't an exaggeration. I can think of atleast two other occasions where he has complained about scoring decisions by umpires. He's also complained about not having protection in the lineup, and losing Manny. But until you can reverse the grand slam last October and his World Series numbers, I do not give a damn about these minor incidents. His bat has spoken much louder than his words.
  12. It looks like the Red Sox will miss Sonny Gray in the 4 game set against Oakland, and Seattle is pretty mediocre this year. They're also getting Victorino back which will help the outfield.
  13. Don't look now, but the Red Sox are only 6.5 games back, and 4 back on a wild card spot. I am still a strong believer in the one-more-bat theory.
  14. I'd definitely be in favor of picking him up. When I referenced the Rangers, I was referring to both him and Choo -- although Choo might be more of a longshot.
  15. Was this referring to me? I started that post by saying that the options will take time to develop.
  16. Josh Willingham is my favorite pick. Last year of his contract, $7 million due in 2014. Career .833 OPS career, generally a 20-30 HR guy. Playing on a last place team that has been in last place for years. He's a hack defensively, but in LF at Fenway with an otherwise excellent OF, he'll be fine. With the Twins continuing to be desperate for pitching, I bet you could get him for Felix Doubront. I have a few other ideas. Michael Cuddyer is owed 8 figures on the last year of a contract for a bad team. If he can recover from the injury before the deadline and show he is healthy, he would fit. Matt Holliday is owed a lot of money, and could be available if the Cardinals fall a bit in the standings. The World Series loss hurts the trade a bit, but Card fans won't have to see his bat against them. Denorfia is a bit better defensively and worse offensively, but he is a good player on a bad team. Seth Smith would be a great platoon option for Gomes. The Rangers have good expensive outfielders and are in the middle of a record-breakingly unlucky season.
  17. There are options, but they probably will take some time to develop. The team needs to gain a few games in the next month on the way to the trade deadline and keep it close. I doubt any other AL East team has the kind of pitching depth that the Red Sox do. Napoli is finally back, Victorino is coming back this week. Ben should be able to find an overpaid all-bat, no glove type outfielder at the deadline for no significant prospects. With Bradley and Vic they can probably hide someone in left. There is also the chance we see Mookie or WMB.
  18. Peavy got shelled all game, but the defense kept bailing him out. 7 hits, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 1 ER.
  19. That was the ugliest 5 inning game I have seen since Dice-k left. Glad to see Peavy get out of it.
  20. Midseason pitching is expensive. It may very well be Ranaudo, Barnes, or Webster. Maybe even Buchholz?
  21. This defense is saving Peavy's ass right now.
  22. Wow, whenever balls get to that RF corner, they're usually triples. Holt played that ball extremely well.
