  1. This is what makes the whole situation so compelling-- the fact that you have a bottom of the order that could act like a top of the order somewhere else. The "second leadoff" concept is a joke if Crawford is followed by garbage, but what if the Sox did manage to get Beltran, or built the rest of the offense? 1-5, is good, but having a legit 1-4 after it would dominate.
  2. Not going to happen. You don't give up major league talent, and a decent prospect for a player that is not only extremely expensive, injury prone, leaving again in a few months, but also won't net you picks in the draft.
  3. Relief pitching tends to be the most unreliable position in the majors. Guys that are exceptional now, might turn to garbage in different environments or different years. Heath Bell is doing well in the NL West, but bring him to the AL East for two seasons to close at age 34/35? He hasn't closed a single game in the playoffs, has he?
  4. Theo has talked about how the Red Sox do have some money, and could potentially make a big deal if the terms are right. I think the problem is that the Bruins unexpectedly took a good amount of revenue away from the Red Sox earlier this season, and the ownership group is hesitating on whether to add another big contract right now.
  5. Strange. When the Yankees win, I'm usually upset. With this, I really could care less.
  6. A-gon individually has more home runs than the NL combined.
  7. So did anyone request John Lackey as their personal pitcher?
  8. Wow Bautista.
  9. I think this is going to be a very difficult question moving forward. If Lavarnway keeps playing like the Victor Martinez of AAA, which of the 3 players do you keep on your roster? The team captain, veteran, and Beckett's binky behind the plate. The two rookies, one with a hammer, and the other with a rocket. Or, Saltalamacchia who is proving himself to be a major league quality catcher, and has three years of club-controlled years left. Or, do you let Ortiz go for draft picks and carry a third catcher instead of a DH? Honestly, I think the best plan is to trade Salty for value, and see what Varitek can do with Federowicz/Lavarnway. But I see this as one of the intriguing questions that come up next offseason.
  10. I see these kinds of requests on craigslists all the time. You might want to give the box office a call, and see if they will print a pair of tickets for you.
  11. Lavarnway over 81 games-- .303/.377/.554/.931, 21 HR, 60 RBI, 14 Doubles, 51 Runs. J. Montero over 70 games-- .289/.346/.418/.763 7 HR, 33 RBI, 12 Doubles, 27 Runs Can you imagine if Lavarnway could ever develop league average defense at catcher?
  12. I didn't mention the shortstop situation. My point is, for every mistake Scutaro makes, the other five gold glovers will make up for it. Not every player is like Iggy, and Iggy would not have hit a home run to bail out Weiland in the second inning. All six of those runs were earned, and so was his 2.50 WHIP.
  13. I think the Red Sox organization will get to the point where they realize he simply isn't an everyday player. And that's fine, but he's an exceptional super-utility guy who can kill lefties. Give him a good amount of time off, and I bet he'll be fine. Both this shoulder injury, and his wrist injury in 2008 only got worse because he was trying to play through them.
  14. 5 years/$75M (2007-11), plus 2012 club option re-signed by Cubs as a free agent 11/06 $5M signing bonus 07:$8M, 08:$14M, 09:$15.65M, 10:$15.75M, 11:$14.6M player option, 12:$16M club option ($2M buyout) full no-trade clause 2007-10, $1M assignment bonus if traded Ramirez has right to void contract after 2010 & become a free agent award bonuses: $75,000 each for Gold Glove or All Star selection, $0.25M for LCS MVP, $0.3M for MVP,$0.35M for WS MVP Ramirez may void 2012 option, but doing so forfeits $2M buyout 2012 option becomes guaranteed if Ramirez: I am just assuming the Cubs would use the options, because quite frankly, he's worth it.
  15. Lester selected for All-star game. Will not pitch due to injury, but he'll be getting the honor.
  16. Just to be clear, that isn't anything against you Matt.
  17. *insert long and obnoxious fart sound*
  18. I wish Ortiz could serve his suspension during interleague play.
  19. Pirates won. Cards down by 4 in the 8th, Brewers down by 2 in the 8th. Technically, if it happens, the Pirates will have percentage points ahead of the other teams, and have sole possession of first place.
  20. It looked like Gregg just stood there.
  21. Man, even Lackey hasn't had an outing THAT bad this year.
