  1. How is Bedard going to help this team beat Cole Hamels? Bedard has split his career with Baltimore and Seattle, not exactly a winning formula.
  2. For some reason I didn't think about basketball because those games are so incredibly short as-is. But football has them (and plays so few games they probably shouldn't). Hockey shootouts are close enough. Soccer has them. Tennis doesn't need them (sorry Isner). Golf only uses them for the final round and its rarely necessary. Name one other sport where you could potentially be sitting in the stands for five hours. I've been at two extra innings game this year, and let me tell you, games should NOT run longer than public transportation.
  3. He's one of the most injury prone pitchers in baseball. No way I'd trade a blue chip for half a year of his services.
  4. All of the other major sports use ties. Why not baseball? Japan does it. Extended extra innings wears out the players, it can mess up the rotation, and it always destroys the bullpen, and the fans are the ones who have to be up at 6 o clock the next morning.
  5. Are there any precedents of a guy hitting the ball like this in AAA? Fun fact: Lavarnway has a .548 OBP against lefties this season.
  6. Remember when Andre Ethier's hitting streak was so highly publicized in national sports media? Why isn't Pedroia getting similar attention?
  7. For some reason, whenever I actually watch Reddick play, I realize the Sox don't need a new RF, but then after a few hours/days, I revert to the Get-Beltran mentality.
  8. I was considering Lincecum's 15-7 in 2009 as well. Things have definitely shifted the last two years.
  9. Until 2009, it was incredibly accurate. Now wins are becoming more or less irrelevant in the CY Young race. This year, it is very very good, with the top 4 being the correct top 4, Beckett, Weaver, Verlander, CC.

  11. And THIS TIME, the annual company picnic game COUNTS.
  12. Why isn't Kuroda getting more trade buzz? He's a very solid #2 type guy on the last year of his contract, and besides the things he has been saying, I haven't heard of him being connected to any teams.
  13. That's what I figured. I was confused because of the article about Weiland being sent to the bullpen.
  14. Sutton is being called up? So where does the extra roster spot come from if Lester is taking Drew's spot?
  15. I ran into CC at a bar in NYC on my business trip this weekend, and I asked him about what he's doing. He said he's pretty sure he's going to Philadelphia next year.
  16. Theo mentioned on WEEI this afternoon that the Red Sox have been trying to lockout Ellsbury for a while, and they've definitely sat down with him in discussions, and they will continue to try to sign him long term.
  17. I brought this up earlier, but based on his minor league stats, what is Reddick? He's a cost controlled kid in his early 20s who will hit .250 average, get on base around .330, hit 15-25 home runs, and play respectable defense at any OF position. I'm starting to be skeptical that Beltran is worth 6 years of that.
  18. If the Sox do re-sign Papelbon, it makes me wonder... will Bard reinvent the setup position in the way Eckersley and others did with the closer position? As of right now, Bard is a top 10 reliever in the majors, but sometimes he's more useful to come up in the 7th, with the bases loaded and two outs. Could he be a guy who sets the trend on 7th/8th inning appearances being as important or more important than the 9th inning ?
