  1. Once again, let's refer back to the benchmark of Reddick as a .250 average, 20 home run, above average defense player. If you're getting that for five more years on the cheap, do you really want to trade him--along with Doubront, who is probably the best option for a #5starter in 2012-- on Quentin, a .260 average, 25 home run, significantly below average defense player? I think there are better options.
  2. I think my perception of Quentin has been skewed by 2008. Based on his stats more recently, I'd argue that Reddick is the better player.
  3. Three sure thing players for UI? Doubront starts for them immediately, Ranaudo goes to their farm, and then throw them either Iggy, Kalish or Lavarnway. That would hit the farm hard, but I think UI would be worth it.
  4. Report: Red Sox are out of the race for Beltran, and are fine with Reddick in RF moving forward. Obviously, we can't know for sure until Beltran is moved, but it sounds plausible enough.
  5. Impressive. Not quite as good as getting rid of the Wells contract, but still very good work on Toronto's part, if this goes through.
  6. The White Sox's pitching staff interests me. Lots of options on a losing team. John Baker only has a year and a half left there, and he might be cheaper than UJ, and just as good. It might be worth the Red Sox's time to take a look at Jake Peavy. He has been injured and underperformed in Chicago, and his large contract and high potential could make him a good target for some team. I'll take his 5 ERA in a heartbeat as an upgrade to this team if the White Sox will bite some of his salary for 2012.
  7. My father is a Red Sox fan. My grandfather was a Red Sox fan. His father was a Red Sox fan. I've paid a good deal of money on tickets, and I've cheered on this team through good times and bad. I think I have the right to use the pronoun "we" although I don't use it often.
  8. There is an entire generation of baseball fans who grew up in the steroid era. Baseball needs to change with the times instead of obsessing over tradition if it wants to hold the attention span of younger fans. Everyone who I have ever talked to who isn't a baseball fan cites one reason "its boring" and personally, I get a little bored when waiting extended amounts of time in between pitches as wel.
  9. Umpires shouldn't throw the game either, even though that game clearly needed to end.
  10. The more I think about it, the more I want Jimeniz. A rotation of Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, Jimeniz, Lackey through 2013 would be pretty fearsome. With a full rotation of quality guys, they could afford to trade away Ranaudo/Dubront/Weiland. Odds are, that kind of talent won't be available in the offseason.
  11. Aceves is awesome. /Pal's opinion.
  12. There are fans from a ton of different teams there. Since so many Talksox posters migrated to Talkpats, and half of TS is from different parts of the country, many of them aren't necessarily Pats fans.
  13. Last time I checked, he hasn't called Camden Yards his home for a few years.
  14. I still don't understand why Talkpats and Talksox couldn't just merge. Doesn't Yeszir own both?
  15. There is a difference between taking away the advantage of being able to control time, and taking forever to play the game.
  16. Japan declares a tie if a baseball game goes past the 12th. Personally, I think the MLB needs to speed up baseball. Guys like Dice-k and Papelbon who take a full minute between pitches need to penalized.
