  1. After Porcello's last start, I get the feeling that Britton wins. Too many of these pitchers are bunched together. Tanaka, Kluber, Verlander, Sale, Porcello and Quintana all have very similar stats. 3.10 to 3.20 ERA. 200 to 220 IP. WHIP from 1.00 to 1.10. All have 16+ wins. 5 to 6 WAR. Unless there is a big pro-win crowd out there who votes Porcello in, none of these guys truly distinguish them from eachother.
  2. I've read it, but it seems overly vague and without a concrete formula isnt possible to really understand the numbers. Pineda has a 4.68 ERA this year and a 2.68 DRA. Meanwhile Porcello is the opposite. 3.2 ERA and very high DRA. The difference ? It seems like it is because Pineda has a 10+ K/9, and a higher BABIP.
  3. I'm trying to wrap my head around DRA and WARP. Last I heard, David Price is leading the league in WARP, which tells me that it can't be all that accurate. It seems like it weighs strikeouts very heavily into its formula, but I can't seem to find any real formula for how the numbers are calculated.
  4. Do you know what irks me the most about Wright's baserunning injury? In 2010, Clay Buchholz hurt his hamstring running the bases, sidelining him for a month. The pitching coach at the time? John Farrell. Farrell really should have known better.
  5. Personally, I'm a "An out is an out" kind of guy myself, but what I'm saying is that while FIP is usually useful... it doesn't really tell us anything in this particular case. Also, with Porcello's recent high strikeout, 1BB/0HR performance, he dropped his FIP from 3.48 to 3.36, so even that is pretty close now.
  6. There are no words. This really sucks.
  7. FIP is determined by HR/9, BB/9, and K/9. Porcello wins BB/9, HR/9 is a push, and Kluber wins K/9. FIP doesn't add much light because it is only determined by strikeout numbers in this case.
  8. Porcello started the 7th, and had three replacements before the end of the inning. Seems like a lot of work to salvage Porcello's start, but I'm sure he'll take it.
  9. Moncada has had what, 40 games in AA ball? He's been excellent at every level of minor league play so far, but he definitely needed more time to adjust to advanced pitching.
  10. Porcello gets a cake Rays lineup to pad his CY Young stats. Awesome.
  11. Trout is the better player right now. Hell, I'd prefer Betts loses simply so he'll be cheaper to sign long term.
  12. I am surprised to see this myself, but... He's having a very average Mike Napoli season. 2016? .838 OPS. Career? .837 OPS.
  13. One more time. 34 HR already, .860 OPS. Besides last year he has floated from .800 to 1.000 ops. Strikeouts aren't satisfying but they mean higher pitchcounts, which Nap has generally been good at. If he can be had for two years, I definitely prefer that to 4 years of Edwin or Jose.
  14. Unlike some people I was referring to the winner of the AL East haha
  15. Why isn't anyone talking about Mike Napoli? He's got 34 HRs on the year, with a big OPS. He'll cost a comp pick, but 2015 is looking more and more like an aberration.
  16. Kinda crazy. Without those guys, the Guardians are not a playoff team. The winner of the AL East seems like they have a straight shot to the ALCS, unless the Rangers tank the end of the season.
  17. SFF mojo. Woah s***, this is the biggest win of the year.
  18. How many posts have you made in these threads so far today?
  19. I really agree with this one. The Pomeranz deal was very expensive, and he was a #2 with no track record and potential durability issues. Young cost-controlled aces haven't been moving.
  20. Cherrington earned a ring, and stacked the team with talent for years to come. As long as there is someone above him in Toronto capable of saying no to boneheaded moves, he'll do well.
  21. My impression is that Buch is more than a long man. If a pitcher goes down, Buch will be the first in line to start.
  22. Rosters expand soon, no reason to get rid of depth yet.
  23. Dombrowski isn't particularly creative, but I wonder if he would considering flipping Price and cash to the Dodgers for prospects and using those to boost a Sale trade. The Dodgers have been looking for a top tier pitcher and Price looks like he isn't meant for the AL East. If the Sox throw in 50 mill they can probably get real prospects for Price. Then, they upgrade to Sale.
  24. Fun fact from the espn broadcast: Pomeranz was drafted ahead of Harvey, Sale, Syndergard.
  25. Since when? He's always been awful with free agent acquisitions, but extremely successful in trades.
