  1. I definitely laughed outloud for this one. But in all seriousness, Lavarnway and Salty are both 6'4.
  2. I finally made sense of this deal. They owed Scutaro a 1.5 million dollar buyout. By exercising the option, and trading him away, they saved themselves 1.5 million dollars. I'm still not pleased with this deal, but atleast I understand it a little bit better.
  3. Shoppach + Lavarnway will be fine. Shoppach gives the defense, Lavarnway gives the offense. The question I keep asking is... what does Salty give?
  4. 1)Jon Lester finishes in top 5 of the Cy Young race-winning more votes than CC Sabathia and Verlander. 2) Dustin Pedroia's power dips, but his OBP rises to .410. 3) Aviles, Punto and Iglesias all have mediocre seasons at SS, and everyone who didn't like Scutaro complains about the trade to move him. 4) Ryan Sweeney and Cody Ross both have career years in the OF. 5) Crawford doesn't return to the lineup until May. 6) Ortiz has a great April offensively, but falls apart in the summer. 7) Lavarnway wins Red Sox rookie of the year with 15 HR in 60 games. 8) Adrian Gonzalez leads the league in RBIs... and double plays. 9) Saltalamacchia is DFAed.... and no team claims him. 10) When Palodios goes to a Red Sox game in April, he throws a brick through the window of the Popeye's Chicken on Brookline Ave. With the Astros, Jed Lowrie will win NL MVP...of my heart.
  5. Dick move by Oswalt. How much of Ben's time did he waste, when he could have concentrated on other moves?
  6. It isn't that Scutaro is irreplaceable, the problem is well beyond that. By replacing Scutaro with Aviles, they lose a reliable source of production and a good clubhouse guy, but it is not the end of the world. But then on top of that, instead of having Aviles as a backup, the team's utility guy is Punto who has hit to a .650 OPS for his whole career, and averages 1 home run per season. It also sends the message that the Red Sox are sellers. That despite having fans sellout out their stadium for years on end, they can't afford to pay their starting shortstop? This organization can have no justification for trading Scutaro unless they use that money for something else more important.
  7. Lohse explicitly said he didn't want to go anywhere, says mlbtraderumors.
  8. They'll just move Westbrook. I wonder if he'll be available via salary dump-- he should definitely be worth 3 million to the Red Sox.
  9. When the Cardinals get Oswalt, their interest in Jackson drops to zero. No free agent wants to go to Baltimore, for any reason. The Red Sox will probably end up with Jackson, overpay him quite a bit, and everyone will be cursing the front office before the end of January.
  10. I am not pleased with how the free agent market is developing. Oswalt should have gotten a much larger offer from the Red Sox. Edwin Jackson is a lose-lose. Either they pay him about 5x what he is worth, or they don't get a FA pitcher at all. Scott Boras has started playing his "the mystery team gave up a 4 year offer" ********, and who knows, maybe the Orioles will pay it. I have been holding out to see what the Red Sox do... and unless they steal Floyd at good value, the pitching situation has turned into a complete nightmare. Their best bet now is to sign Harden AND Duke, and hope that their crapshoot of ten starting options turns into two respectable options and one quality option.
  11. And they also make upwards of 100K a year off the backs of fans.
  12. Stop trolling please. The reason why the cheapseats are available is because of a new initiative they've made to make sure that they end up in the hands of fans, and not scalpers.
  13. Did anyone get tickets this morning? I'm wicked thrilled about this new will-call only with-credit-card service that they're doing at Fenway Park for the cheap seats. I just bought four pairs of tickets for $139. With fees, that's $17 a piece. Last year they were a complete pain to find the cheap ones, but it seemed like they were available for every game this year.
  14. ""It's not yet 100 percent," the source said. "
  15. I've mentioned him quite a bit, but there hasn't been much to say because there hasn't been news on him.
