    Two, actually. More than the Red Sox had in 60 years at the time. But I get what you're saying. I want Boston to get back to being a baseball town as well, but the bandwagon does what it does.

    I've been about 20-30 times as well, and I have mixed feelings. The Colosseum in Rome has a significant amount of history, but no teams still play there. The history and prestige is important, but if a new stadium means cheaper seats and better views for those of us who can't afford box seats, and more revenue to make the team better, it absolutely must be done. The past is important, but shouldn't the present be the first priority? I bought tickets to six games last year, and will probably be around that number for 2012 as well. I'm slim enough to enjoy the seats comfortably, and I can enjoy Fenway for what it is. But if there is a time when it just doesn't make sense to stay there, it won't make sense to stay there.

    I think you are overlooking one key detail. Crawford won't start the season in LF. If you want to argue for Lin, the most reasonable case is to debate that he is better than the current fifth outfielder on this team-- Darnell McDonald. Eventually Kalish will join the group as well, and he has five tools to Lin's one. Do you really think Lin has any chance to start if Ellsbury, Crawford, Ross, Kalish, and Sweeney are on this team? Sweeney has an OBP of .350, and is the same handedness as Lin, and the other guys are far more complete players. It would be one thing if any of them sucked defensively, but all of them are competent.

    When I lived in New York, NESN would get blacked out during Yankee games... which meant that you needed to watch YES. It is disgusting, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Just make sure to change the channel during commercials so they make as little ad revenue as possible from you.

    Well, the topic was about the lineup who I think would be the best, and that is my optimal one. It just fits. You really can't at bats away from Ells/Pedroia/Gonzalez. You can't put Crawford directly behind Ortiz/Gonzo/Youk. I'd argue that Ross is a good enough hitter to protect Ortiz, and is a little bit faster than the guys in front of him. And if you have a mediocre switch-hitter, who doesn't get on base but hits for power, that's a good guy to put in the 9 spot.

    Ellsbury Pedroia Gonzales Youkilis Ortiz Ross Crawford Aviles Salty This is the ideal lineup, hands down. It goes L-R-L all the way through, with a switch hitter at the end. The top 5 are self-explanatory. Putting Ross at 6 prevents Crawford from getting cramped on the basepaths. Aviles hits for average but never walks, which will give him the chance to advance Crawford, and Salty hits for slug, but not OBP, which will do well to drive both Crawford and Aviles home-- since Aviles is pretty fast too. It fits very well, and if it weren't for the "rebuild Crawford's confidence" argument, I'd bet it would be widely agreed upon.

    I don't think so. The Braves and Phillies are still both very good. The Nationals won 8 more games than them last year, and also get significantly better in 2012, with Gonzalez, Jackson, Lidge and a healthy year from Strasburg helping the team. Plus if Harper emerges, and Werth returns to form, I think the Nationals will be much better.

    This point is not quite accurate. During the first twelve games of the season, the Red Sox went 2-10. Crawford was hitting .137. They did move him around a little bit, but he hit below 3rd exactly one time.

    L) Ells R) Pedroia L) Gonzalez R) Youkilis L) Ortiz R) Ross L) Crawford R) Aviles S) Saltalamacchia This is probably the best possible lineup using those nine guys. There is absolutely no handedness vulnerability, Crawford doesn't get stuck behind the three heavy set guys, and the team's best three players get the most ABs.
