Avatars definitely help distinguish certain posters. My first year here, everyone with redsox related user names all got mixed up in my head--even obvious standouts like BSN. Have two "User Name" posters now won't make things easier.

Burnett suddenly turned into everything he was supposed to be at age 36. For some reason I thought Liriano was older... I'm less surprised now that I realize he's only 29.

I think the problem would be that Pap won't be able to co-exist with the best closer in the majors. Uehara has proven too much to be delegated to setup duties.

If he completely clears waivers, and he keeps mouthing off, maybe the Phillies want to dump him. The Dodgers have some bullpen arms better served in AAA.

The Pirates must be running on fumes right now. When you have Francisco Liriano and A.J. Burnett pitching like aces, they have to fall apart at some point. I hope they crush the Dodgers in the playoffs, but the way their team is composed still seems kind of silly.

I just read an article outlining 10 possible players who might be available. I don't know if they'll get to the Sox, but all of them made some kind of sense to me. Papelbon -- 40+ million more on his contract. Cliff Lee -- 60+ million. Morneau -- 14 million this year. Alex Rios -- 13 this year and next, plus an option. Morse -- 7 million this year. Lohse -- 11 million through 2015 Plus a few low salary guys that other teams may be able to pickup : Kevin Greg Ibanez Chad Qualls Darren Oliver

Its always easier if you only need 2 tickets. Looking for 3-4 adds a challenge. You might want to get there early-ish to talk to the scalpers and see what they have.... they tend not to get any new inventory of that quantity on game days. They are all over, but I always run into a ton all up and down Brookline Ave.

I also didn't want the Sox to re-sign Beltre, and it almost seems like it turned out to be an awful miss for Theo.... Until I remembered that the Sox got Jackey Bradley Jr. and Blake Swihart for compensation. That was the filthy draft class right before the bonus pool system, so the draft was loaded with very talented young players who didn't want to get paid less in the following year. Losing Beltre sucked, but if Bradley turns out to be what we hope, it will be a modest, but respectable move

Texeira has been declining for a while. But if you're 5 years through an 8 year contract, and the guy has anchored you through a World Series, has been healthy most of it, has given you three stellar years, and one solid one... why complain? He will continue to have good power and defense, and the Yankees have plenty of money to pay him.

It probably has to do with options. Workman only just got his cup of coffee, but he also looks like a guy who will be in the majors permanently soon. So they'd prefer to send him down than a cusp player like Wright who might get shuffled around a bit more often.

My favorite season in recent memory (not including this one) was 2010... and while it probably isn't all that important, per say, that was the cornerstone season that this one is so similar to. That was the year Pedroia broke his foot, and was trying to keep in shape by taking balls in the field from his knees. The stars like Youkilis, Beckett, Lowell, Papelbon, Ellsbury and Ortiz had either been hurt or underperforming all season. It was a season about the non-stars. Daniel Nava's grand slam "was a great moment in what would be a very short major league career". Some of us had Darnell Mcdonald-mania, while others had "DFA DARNELL!" . Scott Atchison was the 7th inning guy, and bridge to Bard+Pap. Lackey toughed out quality start after quality start, and we never heard the end of bitching about him. Jed Lowrie had a .907 OPS, and earned the nickname "The Sexy Beast", and Scutaro was playing the field with a dislodged vertebrae. Every single player contributed, and there was always some 4A guy surprising us all with an amazing performance. It wasn't a year for pink hats... it was a year for baseball fans.

Drake Britton. Plus, Morales and Wilson should be back eventually. All of those guys have been starters at some point recently.
