  1. Heyman reporting that the Mariners are preparing a 225 million dollar to Cano. 50 mill above the Yankee's best offer. That might be it.
  2. Kemp is damaged goods. His total fWAR over the last two years are 2.8. That's 1.4 per year. I don't care what he was 3-4 years ago, right now he's a 1 WAR player with injury issues. All with a juicy 6/120 contract. He has the same value as Carl Crawford in 2012.... none.
  3. Trading a 1/13 contract of a guy who had averaged 3-4 WAR a year in the NL for an injury prone guy on a 6/120 contract whose numbers have been all over the map, but over his career averages roughly 3-4 WAR a year. One-for-one, no extra cash, I bet the Dodgers do it.
  4. The more I think about it, the more I like this deal. Insane control. Adding another RH reliever frees up Workman to move to the rotation as the 6th man, making Dempster tradeable. 2/9 is a very good deal, considering what we've seen from the top-tier options get. He's only 29 years old. Ben didn't trade Lowrie, or Reddick for him, and no draft pick attached.
  5. Right -- that was something that teams had been discussing, but it sounds like now every team that bids the highest amount gets negotiating rights.
  6. In all fairness, it did have the best closer ever
  7. And as good as the bullpen seems on paper... You just never know.
  8. Did you just correct me by using the same number I posted? Low teams don't get priority.
  9. That's crazy. So apparently 20 million isn't enough for the Eagles to trade Japanese-Kershaw. Maybe this agreement will do more harm than good for the game.
  10. After the year Koji and Taz had, I took a hard look at the players with the highest K/BB ratio this offseason. Mujica was on the top of the list. This guy has insane control. Love the pickup.
  11. Price + Cano to Seattle makes the AL West insane. Houston will win 15 games next year.
  12. Granderson makes more sense if the Red Sox don't bring back Nap. He adds flexibility, giving the Red Sox 3 guys who can play CF and RF at Fenway... which we saw last year to be pretty crucial. Nava moves to 1st, and the Red Sox need to find a RH platoon for him.
  13. Yanks sign Tanaka, and they break the luxury tax. They STILL claim to want to avoid it, but I really doubt it.
  14. Also SFF -- why criticize Granderson's defense when it is pretty clear UZR does not want anything to do with Kemp in centerfield?
  15. "Filler" at 3B? You get blinded by talent sometimes -- putting "filler" at a position would probably end up be a loss of 4 WAR on a gamble that Kemp stays healthy. Also, Drew's biggest bidder is the Yankees, who are already onto their third round draft pick and won't care.
  16. Also -- Ethier versus righties -- .294 .394 .460 .854 Nava versus righties -- .322 .411 .484 .894 Why sign another slow left fielder who is only good as part of a platoon?
  17. I don't see the Red Sox trading players who make holes. Losing Middlebrooks mean they need to outbid the Cano-losers for Drew, and I don't think that's what they want to do.
  18. Maybe cheaper doesn't mean better. Last year, I was comparing career stats, and it looked like Victorino was just as good as guys like BJ Upton, Michael Bourn, and Ellsbury, and he was very close to those guys statistically. Granderson is this year's Victorino. A .830 career OPS in center is a big deal, but even more so with that 40 HR bat. He makes the team much more flexible defensively, and could probably be worth as little at 1/3 to 1/2 the contract Ellsbury just received.
  19. One report out there that the Mariners offered Ellsbury nine years. That has to be Boras-speak, right? Right? If not, Cano is going to Seattle.
  20. Miami has the edge because of the black mark they put on baseball last year. Shameful ownership.
  21. The most important question here is... do you walk Ortiz if there is a guy with 40 HR power behind him?
  22. He will be showered with dollar bills, and you know it
  23. I don't want SFF to be anywhere near Bradley. No career ending wrist injury after signing autographs. No career ending elbow surgery from high-fiving fans. And ESPECIALLY no career ending back injury from a tough fall on the frisbee fields.
  24. .335 OBP in a platoon seems pretty meh to me.
  25. Granderson still makes more sense for the Red Sox than Kemp.
