They are pulling games out of their asses, thanks to timely hitting and pitching. Playing guys out of position, having a kid like Iglesias hitting .400 while everybody says he can't hit (look at all those infield hits), having two closers go down with season-ending injuries, having their best starter sitting because he has a pain in his neck (which is a pain in the neck to everybody else), and having an inconsistent Lester and a consistently mediocre Dempster.
Hopefully, in the next few days, the FO will come to realize that the team has the best record in Baseball, and that the future is now. Surprise. There is no "bridge year." Get some more pitching help, Ben. And cash in a few chips if necessary.
