  1. I have nothing against him other than his inability to hit last season. I see him a excess baggage that could be used to better the team in trade.
  2. Well at least he's not moaning about "respect" and his contract.
  3. It's all bluster from Ortiz. No way in hell does he intend to donate $500. chunks to the idiots at MLB. The entire thing is such a joke.
  4. It sounds logical and all but I doubt that the Sox do anything that could help strengthen a division opponent this close to the season. That could backfire in some way. Unless they offer Marcus Strohman!!!!!!! I think Vic and hopefully Graig will be gone. But not to within the AL East.
  5. Once Scherzer rejected the Tiger's liberal offer the writing was on the wall. Lester would cost more than the Sox could justify. He was gone.
  6. Lol. 2 martinis and clarity.
  7. Again with the logic!!!!
  8. I would like to see a "stopper" at the top of the rotation. I don't see a "veteran" as being much use as a #1 if he can not shut down a decent team and compete with that team's #1 on more or less equal footing. I do not buy into the "leadership" and "mentor" ideas of a veteran pitcher. Performance is what is needed. Masterson is a veteran. Porcello is a veteran. Miley is a veteran. Buch is a veteran. These guys need to perform not lead a young staff.
  9. There is no contradiction if you consider that one player costs about 33% less money ( as in actual $ ) and costs nothing in prospects. And that does not factor in that one player has demonstrated success of some kind in the AL while the other has not. These are two different types of apples.
  10. Yes, I stand corrected!
  11. Amaro has waited the market out to the point that it has contracted on Hamels. On Lee, there are presently no clear suitors for his services. Only a few teams could ever gamble $37.5 on any player for one year. The Sox are in an exclusive club here. They just spent $31.5 mil on a 19 year old that has not even sniffed the bigs, let alone be a dominant and productive player for many years. I say the gamble on Lee for one year is acceptable. AND I HATE BIG $ DEALS!!!
  12. And a demonstrated ability to pitch in the AL. But yeah, lower cost to attain.
  13. This is how I feel as well. I'd add that Hamels is already 31 years old. I think the Sox are targeting younger arms for the rotation.
  14. I'd be okay in a one for one swap. I'd hate to see Victorino go but dems da breaks. I see no need to send other players along to Philly in the deal. Philly needs to dump money. The Sox would be assuming the entire $37.5 mil of the Lees deal and sending a $13. mil. player back. Philly gets salary relief and Boston gets a legit starting pitcher with a huge price tag. I'd say that is "even". Not really, but close enough. If anything Philly should sweeten the deal.
  15. I hope Nap has a big year and is signed to an extension by the Sox. Tubbo can stay at 3rd for now while Moncana learns how to play baseball everyday in the minors.
  16. $110. mil. cute?
  17. I would imagine NESN as usual.
  18. They say that they do not have a building plan or even a site chosen. They say they want to build about where you have mentioned. Cool, eh?
  19. Many people are waiting for the fail from Hanley. I was shocked and disappointment when the Sox suddenly signed him. Now I'm looking forward to seeing his at bats. I want to see what makes him such a special hitter. I really doubt that he will be plagued by injury as the press and ill-informed fans have tried to sell. At the same time, while I know for a fact that he spent a bunch of time with Ortiz this winter ( and received many earfuls ), I am not convinced that he will keep his nose out of trouble while playing here. I think that the kid is still a punk and a twerp. I always rail against big contracts and I am in no mood for the usual lectures of his value given WAR and all that ********. But this is one big contract that I believe may pay decent dividends. If he performs, he will go big and this market will love his ass. If he sucks in anyway he will be branded as just another Crawford and the biggest malcontent in MLB.
  20. It seems that the City of Providence is convinced that with the new stadium being visible from I 95 that more interest will be stirred which will lead to increased revenues for restaurants and other downtown businesses. Before anyone here who loves to claim that they know more about this type of stuff than I do say anything really stupid or really smart, know that I heard these things straight from the horses asses, the Major of Providence and the new President of the Pawsox. I'm sure that some people will be making money off of this. I doubt that it will be the "little man". Talk is that a plot of land along "the river" just south of downtown will be selected with hopes of having the right field fence abut the river thus creating a potential McCovy Cove type deal with dopes in kayaks paddling around trying to retrieve balls. This is a disgusting idea. Anyone who has seen that water would agree. But hey, it's the City that Buddy built!!!!!!! This is progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MVP is exactly right. The new stadium will lead to more expensive seating and paid parking. McCoy currently averages over 9000 patrons each game. This is a poor city surrounded by poor suburban areas. This is NOT BOSTON and NOT EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS. The Providence Red Sox will not be able to draw much more even with a shiny new stadium. And now most of the sleazy strip clubs in the south of Providence will have to move!!!! The horror!!!
  21. Yeah, I know. I just have to stop and try to remember.
  22. Well I read today that the State of RI is part owner of McCoy so it's likely that a new stadium gets built in Providence and the team will be renamed The Rhode Island Red Sox. I'm against it. McCoy is a great destination for family entertainment. The man that used to own the team only raised ticket prices a few times for a total of $4. in 34 years and the most expensive ticket is still only like $12. with free parking. General admission is only $5. . GREED IS GOOD!
  23. Regrettably I don't have a copy of The Chart. It was a matrix that a Talksox member came up with and posted that helped us to understand why when the Yankees did something it would be a great thing and when the Sox did something it was the end of the world. So to speak. Sox prospects were bound to fail but Yankee's prospects would be multi-time all stars. That an injury to a Red Sox would signal the end of his productivity but an injury to a Yankee would somehow be okay or even what was best for the player and team. That type of thing. This was about six years ago when the Jacko hate was at it's peak. Things have calmed down since then. But we love to roll our eyes when Jacko "reverts to form". It's all just fun to play with now.
  24. I still get the brothers confused. LOL!
  25. This is the why, ultimately, a new stadium would be a bad idea.
