  1. Of course. We all go ga ga over big name signings like Panda and Hanley. But "risky" moves are always part of the roster construction process. This is the type of move that could really make a difference to the team this year. Even if it is only for half of a season.
  2. Well one can easily see your point. Lee could prove to be nothing more than a very expensive Schmoltz. The key is not what the Sox give up for him or how much he is paid so much as it is exactly what kind of health the guy is in. It may be wishful thinking that at his age he could resume career form. On the other hand, if he is healthy he could be a reliable 6-7 inning per start guy. I say that if the Sox trust the physicals and evaluations than it is a reasonable risk to take.
  3. It's interesting that Cliff Lee has been a target for Talsox posters for about 5 years. Obviously he is not a young guy and maybe not able to do what he used to do. For some reasons he remains a pitcher most of use would want on our team.
  4. So let's speculate what type of deal it would need to be to acquire Cliff Lee. Do the Sox have to deal a Devers type? And what / who else?
  5. Everything you say makes sense to me. Although I guess I am a little more optimistic about Pedroia's power more or less returning since he claims both hands are finally healthy. I hope so.
  6. Yeah talking about other boards used to be frowned upon on Talksox much like political discussions. It never comes to any good and usually ends up reflecting poorly on Talksox. That, I have no wish to see.
  7. Don't bother trolling. I'll answer. It means that if Lee is proven to be once again healthy that the Sox should make a priority out of signing him.
  8. I saw that article and I too question the WAR projections for the 2015 position players. No, it does not make sense to see Castillo rated so hi because he has played about 10 games above A Ball. I guess that metrics used to evaluate him at low levels carry a lot of weight. The WAR for Pedroia was way too low as well. How do you project a healthy Pedroia who has had , I believe, 5 and 6 WAR seasons recently, so low? Don't get hung up on not totally understanding WAR. And God help you if you delve into what UZR and UZR150 actually mean. Of course I have now opened the door to the metric heads to beat me to death for my defiance!!!
  9. Lol. Very good post. Kimmi: Being new here I want to tell you that I consider myself somewhat "entitled". But I do not expect that the Sox to go to the playoffs and further each year. As a fan since 1966 I have become accustomed to the ebb and flow of my team's success. I am certainly well acquainted with the feelings of being a "lovable loser". I just have come to expect that my team is competitive each year. Not because of the three titles this century. But because it has been competitive most of the years of my fandom. Also, I believe that this market demands it.
  10. The pens would be part of what determines which team would be better as well. Presently, that appears to be a wash to me. But a case can be made for either pen.
  11. Well that would then depend on how both team's offenses perform. Both teams have question marks offensively. I'm not being a homer when I say the Sox likely have an advantage here.
  12. I'd say that the Yankee rotation is very good and even scary if they all come back healthy for the new season. But there are big ifs for 4 of their guys.
  13. I'm down with this post.
  14. Yup. This is what I was trying to say.
  15. That's the guy I was referring to!!!! Yeah I seem to remember Dojji suggesting Nap as a catcher, and part time 1st baseman and DH. But Tehan!!!!!!!! AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!1!!!!!
  16. What exactly was Tubbie's extension? Hasn't he had some productive time at the beginning of it? Anyway, it sure looks bad for the Yankees now.
  17. Oye! I don't think anyone on Talksox is swallowing any Kool Aide here. Most of us are still scratching our heads and waiting for Ben's next move.
  18. Dojji has been right about other players as well. Mike Napoli comes to mind. We all gave Dojji crap when he had his man crush on Nap. Aside from injury, Napoli has been most of what Dojji said about him. Of course there was that 3rd baseman for the Royals, I believe. What ever happened to that guy?
  19. I must say that I always enjoy reading Dojji's prospect related posts. There is usually nothing wrong with what he says about the guys. Both the ones that make it, and the ones that don't make it. Scouting and talent evaluation will always have a large dose of subjectivity in it. None of the pros at it are perfect.
  20. I think that it probably comes down to the Sox stated philosophy / policy not to make a big investment in a pitcher over 30. The guy is 33 now. No way in hell do I believe that Ben really is satisfied with the current rotation for all of 2015.
  21. I am just glad that Shields did not sign with the Yankees or with another AL East team for that matter.
  22. I see Miley as nothing worse than most of the mid wrung starting pitchers around the league. With an offense that functions well as this year's lineup suggests, I can see Miley getting 15 wins. I can also see him losing 11-12 games. There remain way to many ifs about this team. But Miley has decent talent and is still kind of young. Plus his personality will play well in this market. It's easier to perform well when you are liked.
  23. I saw one article that said he was working very hard. He should be. As should everyone else on the Sox roster. This team stunk last year.
  24. I imagine all five of the Padre fans are excited. The Padres are said to have "won the off season". But will all their bold moves translate to the win column?
  25. Yeah it is a shame a first post is unintelligible. The ban hammer awaits.
