  1. This is rationalization Fred. And saying that he plays better fat than lean is hardly a scientific analysis. I say this not to you alone. I say it my friend Username? too. I remember George Scott ( the absolute best defensive first baseman evah!!! ) losing weight one season. He continued to rip and play the best D at 1st. Plus he had new found speed on the base paths. In general, it is not safe to make assumptions that fly in the face of science. And while I'm blabbing, Ortiz continues to play well without the excess baggage. Maybe he has supplanted the fat with muscle mass? Maybe he is just able to run and hit better with less weight? Jacko is correct. Panda is a time bomb.
  2. Boxing is so dead now. None of these guys have the appeal of a true superstar. Maybe Pacman in his country. Nope. Give me the heavyweights from the late '70s and early '80s and of course my second favorite boxer of all time Marvin!!! People want more violence now ( MMA ). The sweet science is just not a draw anymore. Too bad.
  3. Would you prefer he say "I'm going to suck ass all year"? I want the players on my team to be confident. No one takes his remark seriously. Not even himself, I assume.
  4. I always liked Dempster even though he was not exactly lights out. I am very interested in seeing how Kelly develops. He has upside. Unlike Clay Doltholtz who can exhibit mind bending "stuff", Kelly appears to have a brain and a heart. Two attributes laptop will never have.
  5. I think that these moves will have a negligible effect on the pace of the game. For there to be shorter games, commercial breaks would have to be shorter and less frequent. That will never happen.
  6. Let's all enjoy the hilarity. When the Sox fall upon difficult times there won't be any.
  7. I blame this squarely on Farrell. His is running a romper room camp. They should be more serious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I was only speaking to his ability to field.
  9. I have disliked Barry Bonds since 1986. He is not a nice person.
  10. I can't speak to his efforts of last spring. I am using my knowledge of human physiology and physics. I make certain assumptions. Like, hey, it should be easier to get to a grounder to the left if I can move my feet faster. To say that a person who carries 15-25% extra weight around can move faster than when he is lighter is not logical and I believe factual.
  11. My guess is that there will not be a new stadium until public safety becomes an issue. Fenway is actually crumbling.
  12. Yup. I speak as a fat bastard that is no longer physically able to exercise and I know that I can lose 40-50 pound by altering my diet alone. A guy like him with all his resources, age, and athleticism could do it much easier. All he has to do is try. I would have signed Headly.
  13. That just sugar coats the central issue which is that fat people suffer diminishing health earlier in life. No one here is saying that tub of goo can not play baseball. He is on an MLB team and has a $98. mil contract. His body will break down much sooner than a person who is in much better shape. That is fact, unless he is some freak or anomaly. And here is a point no one is mentioning. There is no reason fat boy can not lose 30-40 pounds and become even better. To deny this is just stupid. He makes the choice everyday to remain fat because he is too lazy to do anything about it. Nonsense to anyone who claims that he plays better fat. That is just really, really stupid.
  14. Maybe. If the owners decided to move the team to the Suburbs and pay the bulk of the costs it could be done.
  15. Of course I hope he has one hell of a year!!! But if he doesn't, I'm gonna go all Fred on you all!!!!!!!!!
  16. If I posted a silhouette of Panda and one of myself next to his, you could not tell us apart.
  17. I don't remember the year. I do remember Mickey Rivers getting pelted with beer bottles in right field at Fenway. To me, that was the start of the modern Yankee hate here in the Boston area. Not a shining moment in Sox fan history.
  18. The Boston area has had Pink Hats since before 2004. Maybe not in such abundance, but they were there.
  19. That was Riverside Station and the terminus of the Green line. No, I did not have to pay to park when shuttling you to the game. But if you need to park there all day you have to pay. Getting to Fenway is very easy if you approach from the west in a car. If you don't mind walking about 1.5-2.0 miles each way, there are free and available parking spaces near Beacon St. and Park drive. That has always been my little secret!!
  20. But The Big Hurt played 1st. Who is the DH that has been ignored by HOF voters? Edgar Martinez? He belongs in the HOF.
  21. Plus there is the "not a complete player" thing.
  22. I get crucified when I say similar opinions about the Sox. I like that you mention this.
  23. Makes me wonder about Papi going to the HOF. He too has been "linked" to possible PED use. But there is no evidence that he did anything in violation of the rules in place when he played. I say that he is a HOFer. Especially after he eclipses the "required" threshold of 500 HR for a power hitter.
  24. I'm glad that you mentioned the bold part. Boggs never seems to get credit for making himself into a Gold Glove caliber 3rd baseman. Yeah, he was a puke, I guess. But he was a well rounded player never the less.
  25. It's just PR crap. It means nothing. I think the Sox should retire the number of Duane Josephson.
