  1. I can't be sure but is suspect healthy hands and wrists may play into his numbers being up from last year. He got whacked a couple of times early last season from what I recall. And as good as Mookie is I do think he continues to become an even better hitter.
  2. Doesn't he have a two year contract? Edit: 1yr/6 with options
  3. Marichal was next on my list but for some reason I did not type it. Probably because I was too lazy to figure out how to spell it. Loved that high leg kick. Did not get to see him play often as he was in SF. But he was special.
  4. You could "hear" his fastball? That is f***ing cool.
  5. He is in MLB because of his bat. He was bound to improve. I see him as a .320 in the making. What I like is the improvement of his defense and in particular the maturation of his arm.
  6. I must be the most inept typer on Talksox. And f*** me sideways I can't spell for s***, either. Now that I am officially "old" ( 62 ) my eyesight is exacerbating my efforts. I still don't get much from the comp. Maybe it's all that cough syrup I drank for breakfast.
  7. I never had the privilege to see Mays play in his prime. I saw him at the tail end of his career when he had declined. My Dad said he was incredibly talented.
  8. I wonder how the 237 cap will effect this process?
  9. Of course DD is looking for relievers. Smart management will always look for relievers. And this is an easy road to upgrade as the breed is a dime a dozen. But what you guys want is effectively an 8th inning closer to set up a 9th inning closer. Not just some journeyman schlep.
  10. Yeah I can understand that, I guess. I never realized it was such a problem.
  11. I never saw Kaufax , Ford ( although I think I met him ), or Mathewson. Of the pitcher I did see: Gibson Blue Perdo Roger Honorable mention for a dozen guys particularly Denny McClain.
  12. I respectfully submit that I have never understood the anti-Lackey sentiment. He was signed to what was then a decent or reasonable contract and immediately sucked because of a junk elbow. Then when he returns post - surgery, he is productive. Some rumor gets circulated that he will retire or sit out rather than play the last year on the vet min contract. Boom. He is a class A jerk that can't pitch. He was a workhorse #1 in LA ( not an Ace ). He was pretty much that after the surgery and his went out and got lit-up every start for a season because his arm was attached by a thread. I just don't get the animosity directed towards him. Divorcing a sick wife is his business. Chicken and Beer was stupid but that culture was endemic in the clubhouse from what I have read. He does look like a f***ing horse. I will give you that.
  13. The obvious choice is JD and OPS. But I would tend to point to "positive regression" of our hitters.
  14. We would need a comprehensive scouting report of Cabrera from a700 before I would sign on but he does seem to be okay at first glance. How much does he make and how long is his contract?
  15. I would just as soon stay with Swi and Morland. Swi has much more upside in my opinion.
  16. While I wish the Sox had more success drafting and developing pitchers, I am glad that they can and do participate in all possible methods to acquire talent. Being a big market team sure helps. I have no problem with that.
  17. I think he would really good in blue.
  18. That's the Sox's way of welcoming you back from Nantucket.
  19. Not that he is a world beater of a prospect but I see no problem with Travis. He does not suck. He is just not enough of what we think we must see at his position. Is it so bad to be AAAA?
  20. I find it interesting that Benni is out on bereavement leave and Swihart is not. Swihart's Grandma died yesterday or two days ago. No mention of it in the media. And he remains here fighting for a job or to "enhance his trade value" as most here want. It may say something about his character. Or about the collective bargaining agreement. Or not.
  21. Lol. Back then I went to the freezer for my vodka!
  22. I love watching him run. He stung the ball twice tonight. Pillar made a good play on one of them. I am trying to think of the last time I saw a "catcher" with his speed. Probably Manny Sanguilian about 40 something years ago.
