  6. I can say this with absolute certainty: there are no worthless stats in baseball.
  7. Don't mistake me, I think it's a secondary stat. However, given a large enough sample, win accumulation is a valid measure of a pitcher's effectiveness. While dependencies on a team's run scoring ability and bullpen affect win total in a given period, over a longer period of time, the relative effect among all pitchers tends to even out. It is no surprise that great pitchers in history tend to have more wins than mediocre pitchers.
  8. Pitchers who consistently have a lot of unearned runs are pitchers who have a problem pitching with men on base. Witness Daniel Cabrera.
  9. No doubt a win accumulation will include outliers like that. Other measures are certainly more important in determining how effective a pitcher is. But I still think it's valuable to see how many wins and losses a pitcher has.
  10. ERA, H/IP, K/IP, WHIP, IP, HR in that order are the things I look at before W/L record. Although W/L record is important - since the goal is to win games - it is dependent on a team's offense to score, which is something the pitcher has no control over.
  11. Rooting for the Yanks isn't going to change the outcome of the games; so really, what does it matter? All I know is it's August and the Sox lead the WC. And they don't need the Yanks to beat anybody to make the playoffs. Here's hoping the Yanks lose em all.
  12. The Sox lead the WC and don't need the Yanks to beat anybody to make the playoffs. And they are only 5.5 games out of the division lead. And it's August. There is absolutely no justification for a Red Sox fan to be rooting for the Yankees to win.
  13. Red Sox fans don't root for the Yankees. Period.
  14. It's August. There is no good reason to root for the Yanks.
  15. V-Mart, AGon and now Wake bringing this team to LIFE...
  16. He's got 2 batters left max.
  17. Tickets to Blue Man Group?
  18. All anyone needs to know is that he left her underwater for 9 hours before reporting it to police. That's sick.
  19. Also, a picture of me with "Jimmy" from the Jimmy Fund.
  20. A baseball signed by each member of the 1967 Red Sox.
