  1. If David Wright played in Fenway I bet he could challenge those numbers too.
  2. I'm fine with starting the draft soon as well, I just want other user input. How about Monday morning?(the 27th)
  3. I was being facetious. Dipre will determine the order with a random number generator.
  4. I think that in order to determine draft order, I will pick names out of a hat.
  5. I'm sure that both of them will be happy to read it.
  6. I spoke with Dipre and he said we'll do the voting at the end of the year, so don't worry about it Keeper. He also wanted to do monthly power rankings to make sure we all stayed interested and committed to this thing, which I'm ok with. In any event, he planned on starting this draft at New Years, but if you guys would like to get it started earlier, that's fine by me. Let me know. And more people are welcome to join by the way.
  7. Do you have a response Dipre?
  8. Definitely. But I also believe this is at least his 3rd offense. We're not talking about a guy that "just made a mistake" as bsox put it. The guy has done this many times before. (Just not the killing part)
  9. To be honest, I'm probably further to the left (socially and economically) than any of you guys, but for habitual pieces of s*** like drunk drivers, I'd have no problem using the death penalty on those f******. However, if I'm going to use the death penalty on a piece of s*** like that, I'm not going to be a p**** and use lethal injection. Hell, we should take a lesson from our ancestors and hang the bastard, or even put him in a gas chamber, or one of my personal favourites, we should crucify the bastard. Talk about retro. That'll send the message to other drunk drivers. On a jovial note, we could just have him listen to a country music playlist. That will do the trick.
  10. Even better, just give the victims familes a few of those maple bats that should be taken out of baseball anyway because they are too dangerous, and let them have at the rat bastard. It serves cold hard justice, it prevents the bastard from drunk driving again, it's cheaper than keeping him alive or going through appeals, and it lets the victims families be a part of the process. Maybe throw in some brass knuckles and piano wire too. Besides, a shotgun to the head is too quick and the lethal injection is too painless.
  11. Hold on Keeper. Dipre, I think it's best to do the voting at the end of the season. I wouldn't worry about "losing interest" because the drafting itself will be done between New Years and the beginning of the season. Besides, most of the people here are regular members and should still be around by the time of the voting. For the few that aren't (if any) their team would still have been completed since the draft will take place before the season begins. In addition, this is unlike other redrafts because we're doing this for the upcoming season and we can literally see who has the best team, so there'd be a lot less ambiguity in terms of who has the best team. If this is a 2011 team we're building, then we might as well wait until the final stats are in. That said, if you wanted to do this years in the future, I think it'd be ok to start voting midseason. But I'd stick to what we have. I also think we should start earlier if possible, but I'm getting ansy because I'm ready to go.
  12. For an on the spot criticism I thought it was ok. Besides, considering that we're talking about the NY Daily News, it's gotta be better than average.
  13. I wouldn't go that far. I remember that exact situation, and what happened was that Papelbon was asked if he wanted to close the All Star game (despite it being in NY) and he said that as a closer he always wanted the ball in the end. He never said that he was the best closer or better than Mariano Rivera. The NY Daily News, which is commonly does, exaggerated a story and ran with it. I'll give it brownie points on a nice title though.
  14. On another note (I just thought of this from looking at the Twins contracts) is that if a player is not in baseball in 2010, (like a Cuban or Japanese import) then just use their 2011 salaries.
  15. I agree with you and that's what I had been saying earlier, I was just pointing out that Dipre didn't approve it yet. We'll have to ask him the next time he's on. I'm also going to assume that there will be no adding/dropping throughout the year, so that once the season starts, the rosters permanently lock. Otherwise it would be hard to track with people adding and dropping. Also, when looking at salaries, go with the base salary. Don't factor any of the incentives, or signing bonuses and don't use the AAV.
  16. I understand, and to clarify, I hope you're talking about 2011 WAR. I agree with you that it's a good start, but the voting shouldn't be simply looking up who has the best WAR and saying that the particular team wins, especially considering that the "owner" here would likely have a different managing strategy (ie lineup, when to use relievers/pinch hitters) etc. Not to mention that if we were going to use 2011 WAR, we'd definitely have to wait until the season was over to vote, which I'm fine with, but that wasn't confirmed by Dipre. I would personally love to have the draft done before the season starts and have the voting start at the end of the season, but that wasn't confirmed, so if we are going to do voting beforehand, we would probably need more voting guidelines.
  17. True, and that's part of it. There are a lot of metrics that would be pretty useful, but if WAR was the be all and end all then everyone would use in in their drafting strategy. Don't get me wrong, I like WAR and I think it's a good start, but it's not going to be the sole factor in deciding who wins. I'm not accusing you of suggesting that it will, but I didn't want everyone to think that WAR was the only metric that this was based on and start drafting their players solely based on WAR.
  18. I think that one can make that case in the previous MLB redraft, but defense was definitely considered in the NBA draft, and it was a HUGE part of the NFL draft. I'd argue that defense played a bigger role in the NFL voting than offense. I'll give you the points on lockerroom presence and intangibles, I felt that I was one of the only ones to factor those in. As for injuries, the NBA redraft specifically ignored them, and a lot of the injured NFL players were injured AFTER they were drafted, so I wasn't going to hold that against them. I understand that often the voting can occasionally be subpar, but I think that it's come a long way since the MLB redraft we did over the summer. It isn't perfect, but in the 3 redrafts I've been a part of, I've only seen one final outcome that I'd say was ridiculous and where one team got shafted. There may have been a fair amount of poor votes, but they largely haven't determined the outcome of the matchup.
  19. I almost see this thing being like a time capsule, where the best way to determine which team is the best is by looking at the stats at the end of the season. Also, make sure you use players in roles that they are used to. For example, don't draft Mariano Rivera, Johnathan Papelbon, and Rafael Soriano on your team and put 2 of them as "set up men" as one would on a fantasy team. As Dipre noted, this is not a fantasy team, so things such as defense, injuries, lockerroom presence, and intangibles should be taken into consideration and will be noted in the voting. A few other points. When you make your draft choice, be sure to put the player name and position in bold, and also put the 2010 salary. The reason why you should do this is for people to make sure that you have the right number, and so that you can deduct it towards your salary cap and help keep you guys from going over. At the end of the draft, there will be a period where people can trade players in case people are over cap. In the NBA draft I believe that 2 of the 12 teams were over the cap limit. We will get started with the draft around New Years, so people like me can plan our strategy now, and more people are welcome to join. With the salary cap at 110 million, there'd be plenty of talent around for everyone. Dipre will make the rules and decisions that need to be made, but I'll be the "creator" of the thread so that I can update the chart pick by pick. I might need help setting up the chart in my thread though. Any questions can be presented at any time. I'm sure that this will be fun, as most of the other redrafts usually are.
  20. Not on my end, I liked Dutchy, and I think many people here did too. He got banned for some reason, but that was probably before I was a big time member here. I didn't know him too well, but from what I remembered he was nice to me.
  21. EVERYONE TAKE NOTE!!! Dipre is having trouble getting online right now, so we discussed things and we are going to set the salary cap at 110 million, USING 2010 SALARIES!!!! For new draft players, make sure to check talksox frequently to see when your draft pick is. If you aren't going to be online and you think your pick is coming up soon, then message someone who will be online (I'm a good choice) who your pick is going to be (and a few backups) and we will make your pick for you. If you are skipped multiple times in the draft, we will end up skipping you continually until you make your picks up. Once the draft starts, we will have a separate draft thread and a clubhouse thread, one will be for you to make your picks and/or discuss picks, and the other will be for you to build your lineup/rotation/bench etc. It will also be a place where you can note your rosters so it'll be easy to copy and paste them when it comes time to vote. Are there any questions?
  22. I do personally, but a lot of new signings aren't listed, and of course, a lot of 2011 numbers aren't listed because a lot of players didn't sign, and the arbitration process hasn't begun meaning that a lot of younger players don't have their salary figures at this point. We'll wait for Dipre to return so we can determine whether or not to use 2010 or 2011 salaries. I'm getting kind of ansy because I went to set up a few spread sheets and now I have to wait for Dipre to return before I go any further.
  23. Do you mean 100 Million?
