  1. Price is already at 74 pitches through 2 1/3
  2. Great rally... let's keep it going!!!
  3. Nice... another wasted opportunity
  4. Good point...
  5. At this point, I really could care less who it is, as long as the saga is over and we can focus on the upcoming season instead.
  6. Hmm... Scutaro alone definitely isn't enough for us to land Soria. We'd have to send him to Atlanta and several other prospects to get that deal done. If Scutaro was all it took, I'd do that deal in a heart beat.
  7. Nationals To Acquire Gio Gonzalez http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/12/nationals-to-acquire-gio-gonzalez.html The Athletics will send Gio Gonzalez to the Nationals for A.J. Cole, Derek Norris, Brad Peacock and Tom Milone, ESPN.com's Keith Law reports (on Twitter). Gonzalez is under team control through 2015 and has reached the 200-inning plateau in each of the past two seasons without posting an ERA above 3.23. He'll join Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann atop the Nationals' rotation. However, no MLB pitcher has walked more opponents than Gonzalez in the past two seasons and he's about to get expensive through arbitration (projected 2012 salary of $4.2MM).
  8. Looks like we're going all in on both... kinda excited but not all that eager to give up the entire farm for Bailey and Gonzalez
  9. Never said he was THE reason the Cards won. Stats aren't everything. He plays well when it matters. Unlike our uber-talented team last year. That's all I can ask for.
  10. Whatever... Jesus you'd think the Sox haven't won a Series in 86 years the way some people around here bitch and moan about every f***ing move. Can't have an all-star at every position and guys like Punto are the ones that hold everything together down the stretch. s*** he played just fine for the Cards last year and I'd say their season ended pretty well.
  11. Meh.. Punto always reminded me of Millar a little bit. Scrappy little SOB that doesn't blow you away in anything, but always seems to be in the right place at the right time defensively, and comes up clutch late in games when you need a key hit. In other words, he's exactly the kind of player we didn't have when we needed one in a bad way last year.
  12. Just going off what I've heard... reports were that he's a hard throwing guy. Apparently, not so much. Thanks for the clarification.
  13. I doubt he'll be the full time closer. Really see him as a solid BP piece that can setup and occasionally close games when need be. Other thing to remember is we have him under control for 5 years. Not easy to find quality arms for the pen with that kind of contract situation.
  14. Melancon's 2011 stats: 8-4, 74.1 IP, 66 K, 26 BB, 3.21 ERA, 20 SV Not spectacular, but not horrible either. We traded away a pitcher that has little to no upside as a starter, and utility infielder that's made of glass to get him. Can't really ask for much more.
  15. +1 The LAST thing I want Benny doing is making headlines with crazy moves just for the sake of making headlines. If it makes sense long term for the franchise, let's do it. Otherwise, keep plugging along under the radar and find players that can help us win when it matters. We may not win it all THIS YEAR, but we'll be in a better position going forward to make the moves needed to win the WS sooner rather than later. That was the one thing I hated most about Theo... he would overreact and go overboard on free agent splurges when he felt we failed the year before, even though it carried the possibility of setting us back financially if it didn't work out. The Crawford deal is a prime example. I like Carl as much as the next guy, but that deal is keeping us from being active this year. And by not signing him last year, the Angels had the money to dump into Pujols lap to convince him to sign with them. That wouldn't be the case most likely if they had spent crazy money on CC last year.
  16. This from Ian Browne... I'd be surprised if this thing goes all the way to arb. In fact I expect a two year deal to get done sooner rather than later. Need to get some closure on it so we can move on.
  17. It's official... from Gordon Edes (Twitter) Sox can still negotiate a two year deal, but it won't be for less than $20 million total. Still that might be a better alternative since we'd have more money to work with now when we really need it to upgrade pitching.
  18. From ESPN Insider MLB Rumors:
  19. That would be a ridiculous raise... he made $12.5 last year. He had a solid season, but it wasn't Albert Pujols like or anything of the sort. A $2 million increase should be in line.
  20. Happy to see him back for at least one more year... would have rather had him for two at $9 million per, but going to arb is okay, as he won't make a ton more than what he got last year.
  21. I don't have a problem with bringing him back through arb or with the 2 year option at $9 million per year. He can either have stability for the last two years of his career or more money this year through arbitration. Other than that, not so much
