  1. In retrospect, hold onto Sale and sign a FA. That really stabilizes the rotation. 2B figured itself out eventually. It's hard to say what Breslow will do this offseason. I think he has a logjam in the OF and too many LHBs. He has some good trading chips to use and may need to make a splash. Trade Houck? Trade Duran or Abreu? Eat Yoshida's contract? Trade Casas and move Devers to 1B? C Wong/Teel 1B Devers/Romy 2B Campbell/Grissom SS Story/Hamilton 3B Mayer RF Anthony CF Rafaela LF Duran/Refsnyder SP1 - Burnes SP2 - Giolito SP3 - Trade Acquisition SP4 - Bello SP5 - Kutter SP6 - Priester RP - Jansen, Hendriks, Slaten, Whitlock, Kelly, Booser, Criswell
  2. They have a chance to turn it around. Own up to their mistakes. Stop the bleeding. Make a little run. At least make the end of the season interesting unlike the last two years.
  3. I don't think FCL stints are held to a 250 standard especially now. Maybe even Salem would get players pushed before 250 due to the drop in talent level.
  4. Jhostynxon - promoted after 209 Castro - promoted after 511 (almost time for a pension)
  5. They started the season with 6 guys that were pitching well in Spring Training (including Criswell). When Whitlock went down, it was during the season. It's not so simple to just get a starting pitcher that early. Not many teams are looking to deal at that point in the season. It's not MLB the Show. "Oh, just go get somebody." If it was that easy, teams would make early season trades all the time, but you rarely see them.
  6. They need bulk innings and Penrod can go 2-3 here and there.
  7. I'm not sure about the 250 thing anymore now that there's a new CBO. It does seem like they take the promotion to AAA pretty seriously. The most important part is just making sure each roster has space for everyone to get their time in. The reason Campbell isn't up (not just AA PAs) is that there aren't enough open spots on the roster in AAA. If Campbell was in AAA, it'd take time away from Meidroth, Mayer or Anthony. Somebody would have to sit.
  8. And some years a lot of the FAs flop. The Gio injury was unforeseen. It's the risk of doing business. Bad luck.
  9. Kutter is a 4-5. I don't know how that is different from March. Bello has no doubt been a disappointment. I think a lot of people on here saw him as a TOTR guy, but he's more likely a midrotation guy at best. Hard to get up or down on bullpen guys. They are really hit or miss year to year. We've seen rollercoaster rides from guys like Ryan Brasier and Zack Kelly. Sometimes you just ride them out. I wonder if they re-sign Jansen to a one year deal this offseason and let Pivetta and Martin go elsewhere. I wouldn't count on Fulmer or Murphy for 2025.
  10. I can't believe he didn't turn Kutter and Houck into 180 Inning pitchers!!!
  11. It's just the nickname they gave the following group: Baily, Willard, Tek, Walker (bullpen coach), Miller (analyst) and Rose (analyst). Every team has this same group. The Sox just have a nickname for theirs.
  12. Escobar got 3 games for writing in on his eye black in Spanish. Pillar got 2 for yelling it at a pitcher. Both were over 5 years ago.
  13. I think they are trending in the right direction though. They need to develop guys AND acquire FA. They can't just rely on overpriced FAs. I don't believe there is a quick fix is this problem was endemic and goes back further IMO.
  14. More about making room for all the players that need playing time due to the FCL season ending, DSL ending and college guys getting drafted. Jhostynxon and Castro were promoted to POR.
  15. Yorke had injuries and was also a CA guy.
  16. There's a chance Penrod is up this year for a cup of coffee.
  17. I believe they were counting on Wikelman for depth this year. He took a dramatic step backwards. Maybe next season they'll have Priester, Fitts, Sandlin and maybe others to rely on?
  18. And they built their rotation on Bello - young and unproven Houck - never pitched a full season as a starter Kutter - never pitched a full season as a starter Whitlock - injury risk and never pitched a full season as a starter Pivetta - 5th starter history with mild upside Giolito - workhorse who pitched like dogshit at the end of last season Without in-season replacements, it was easy to see how this could turn into a house of cards at some point after a hot start.
  19. Kutter was never considered a high ceiling guy. I bet if we went back and looked at initial scouting reports from SoxProspects, he's probably already exceeded their expectation. He fell really hard in their rankings and wasn't a great pitcher at times in the system. I think he's a late bloomer who has learned to pitch to contact a little bit. Unfortunately, it's gotten away from him recently.
  20. They are worn out, but they have to figure out a way to keep going and be productive or this team won't get into the playoffs. Even if they add a 6th starter, I don't know how much more it's going to help Houck and Crawford. They are both really showing why we all had questions about the rotation going into the season.
  21. https://www.milb.com/player/kutter-crawford-676710 His pitches per innings pitched in 2019 was 17.93. This year, it's 15.33. He's throwing less pitches each inning so far. The past 4 starts, he threw 17.96 close to 2019 number.
  22. Why wouldn't you count 2019?
  23. They are gassed, but adding Criswell to the rotation just takes away from a pen that has also had its issues. At some point, Kutter and Houck have to push through it. If they are just 120 Inning guys, neither should be in the rotation going forward IMO.
  24. It was quite the injury since his elbow was really unique and could heal itself. A "pretty neat, bionic elbow" some might say!
  25. Kutter has been on a historic trend of suckitude though.
