  1. If the greatest trade in your lifetime is simply cleaning up Theo's mess with a salary dump, then Theo can't possibly be the greatest GM of all time.
  2. I think they'd rather keep Nick Castellanos at 3b.
  3. True.
  4. Only difference is that MJ had rings.
  5. I thought they wanted quicker games? Adding extra rp's only exacerbates the situation...
  6. I feel that he would be better off if he dropped switch hitting and moved to LF.
  7. If you listen to Speier on the latest Soxprospects podcast, scouts aren't as high on Moncada as they once were. Maybe they should move him before he falls off further?
  8. The Sox need pitching, not another bat. We saw in the postseason that you can't win relying solely on offensive output.
  9. Oh sure. He's a fantastic pitcher and probably the best reliever on the market. I just don't believe he's a multiple inning guy like the ones we saw this postseason. I'd rather have Jansen than our current closer, but I'm not sure Dombrowski sees it that way.
  10. For Jansen's career: 409 games, 408.2 innings. I'm not convinced his a multiple inning guy. In 2016, he pitched 1+ innings only 6 times. He hasn't pitched 2 full innings since 2013.
  11. If he doesn't grow out his hair this offseason: wait until next year...
  12. It's not THAT much closer to Atlanta. It's 800 miles from Houston to Atlanta. It's 900 miles from NYC to Atlanta.
  13. I agree. If I were the Mariners' GM, I wouldn't do that deal either...
  14. Swihart needs to spend a full season at Pawtucket working behind the plate. Putting him up in Boston would be a disservice to his development.
  15. Third base coach is always the least popular guy on the team. Butterfield, Sveum, Kim, etc...
  16. He signed his contract in June of 2013. He won the MVP in 2008. ?
  17. The most Pedroia will be paid in straight salary over the life of a contract is the $16 million he will earn in 2018. The average annual value of his contract is $13.75 million, which ranks second among MLB second basemen to Ian Kinsler of the Texas Rangers, who signed a five-year, $75 million contract extension early in the 2012 season that pays him an average annual salary of $15 million, with $16 million his highest single-season salary. Not THAT much of a hometown discount.
  18. It was well below the Pedey offer imo. Wasn't Pedroia the highest paid 2b when the contract was signed?
  19. Deporting Pablo would definitely help clear cap space though...
  20. Bill Parcells once said that he always worried about his linemen over Thanksgiving as some of them could "put on their winter coat" over the course of a few days.
  21. Last year, Farrell saw him in January and said he looked good. One month later, he was back to blimp mode. I don't think checking in on him matters. It's up to Pablo to monitor himself.
  22. What's harder to do: win a WS with a large market team like the Sox or Cubbies, or getting an annual also ran like the Rays to win a WS?
  23. The same as they did last year: check in on him and hope for the best. If Pablo doesn't want to lose the weight or stay in shape, he just won't.
