Porcello worked out this year. Beckett was our ace for a few years.
The only guy I can think of that was brought in to be an ace that didn't work out was Price and he still has a chance to redeem himself. The only other big acquisition was Lackey and he really was only expected to be a #3.
I still can't figure out for the life of me why anyone would give two shits about Cla Meredith at this point. He was barely a prospect. The fact that he didn't become a bullpen ace in the majors shouldn't even register as a blip on our radar.

Oh sure. He's a fantastic pitcher and probably the best reliever on the market. I just don't believe he's a multiple inning guy like the ones we saw this postseason.
I'd rather have Jansen than our current closer, but I'm not sure Dombrowski sees it that way.
