  1. Yup, each knuckleballer is a distinct animal. They talk about it in the Knuckleball! doc. It's hard for guys to coach one another when things go awry because each guy truly has a unique pitch. Wake did love pitching at the Metrodome and the Trop. His best away park was Comerica, probably due to the huge OF. Of course, Skydome was a nightmare for him (worst WHIP for any stadium he pitched at more than 5 times). He also did well at Kauffman, most likely due to the large OF there as well.
  2. I agree that it would be a great idea to start the season with huge question marks at C, 3B AND LF.
  3. He's a great option as long as it's not too humid and the forecast is 0% chance of rain.
  4. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that you need to have a 40 man roster with more than 12 good arms. It's not a "logjam," it's proper roster construction.
  5. If you only have 12 pitchers on opening day, you're f***ed.
  6. Bench coach.
  7. But his bat isn't THAT good. He's a contact hitter with little pop that strikes out about 25% of the time. You'll take what he can give you as a C, but as a LF he'd need to really improve.
  8. Yeah, I don't see giving Smith a heavy workload this year.
  9. Was he on an innings limit last year?
  10. I just think Pom showed that he has a ton of upside as a starter last year. I'd give him another shot to see if the first half was a fluke. If it doesn't work out, he can go to the pen.
  11. Keeping Abad instead of Barnes, Ross or ERod is a weird goal, imo.
  12. The most recent I heard was: "In Carson Smith's case it's really a situation where some people think he'll be ready for spring training -- kind of ready to compete," Dombrowski said here at the GM Meetings. "I'm not really ready to put that on him at this point. I think it's more of a bonus if he's ready there." Dombrowski mentioned approximately June 1 as a more realistic timetable for Smith's return. "But that's still to be determined," Dombrowski said. "He's making good progress. He's felt good. But until you really get into that rehab process. Of course, if he was healthy and ready to go in the very beginning, I don't think we'd be looking for an eighth-inning guy because we feel like he could fill that role."
  13. It would be a little more comforting for me if they grabbed another guy.
  14. Time will tell if he traded high on the right prospects and kept the good ones for himself. I don't think an organization should be built solely from the farm and that there needs to be a good balance between selling and promoting prospects. I hope he's just cut the chaff. No matter what, if the Sox flame out and don't have any sort of playoff run the next 3 years, his time here should be considered a failure.
  15. Smith and Kelly were already on the roster though. To me it just seems like one step forward and two back. If Pom became a lights out swingman, I'd be happy with it. I just don't know what the best thing to do with him due to his injury history. Would turning him into a swingman be harder on him as there would be more appearances? IDK. Wright was great in the rotation, but I'm still worried about him turning into a pumpkin. If he had any secondary pitches, I wouldn't be as concerned.
  16. We're about 18 months into DD's tenure. A lot of his moves can't really be measured at the moment and we need to let things play out a little. If Pomeranz never stays healthy, that trade ends up being a blunder no matter how Espinoza turns out. I can't fault DD for the Kimbrel trade or Price signing as both moves were reasonable. The Sale trade seems like his best get yet by trading Kopech away when he was at his peak value for a real ace. They fixed Hanley by moving him to 1st, but still need to do something about Pablo. If he can get Pablo to stay healthy and contribute, it feels the biggest hole the Sox have right now. If he can't stay healthy, they need to get out from under that contract somehow. My real concern about the job he's done this offseason is that I wish he was more active in signing RP's. They are basically replacing Koji, Taz and Ziegler with Thornburg. That seems like a risky strategy to me.
  17. The mistake is in using the mobile version of the site. Even on my phone, I use the full version.
  18. I don't think it's ridiculous to talk about. Things that are ridiculous: DFA Sale, Price or Porcello. Trade Betts. Beni should start the season in AAA. Kimbrel should become a starter.
  19. Wright is the 6th starter, imo. I'm not the biggest ERod fan, but I'd rather have him be a starter than Wright. My guess is that one of the starters will be injured in April/May and Wright will get a ton of opportunities to get into the rotation.
  20. Ross is better than Barnes, Abad, Hembree and Elias..
  21. Beane and Sabean for me.
  22. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017-mlb-free-agent-tracker/positions-p Greg Holland?
  23. I really can't gauge Hernandez after 9 PAs.
  24. I'm going to give CV a longer rope due to his injury, but his defense was mediocre last year. There was no noticeable drop off when Leon played. Not sure his glove is worth the noodle bat.
  25. pocket change for JH.
