His upside is much higher than replacement level. I don't believe the scouts that say "Goldschmidt or Votto" but he has the skills to be a good 1b if he develops a power profile (he's not even 25 yet).

Every word can be a weasel word if you want it to be. I think that the Sox fandom think Tek was an irreplaceable part of the franchise. There were many other catchers in the league at that time that could have done the same job as he did. Also, he was a s***** captain.

I like Travis' upside more than Hanley's so I'd rather him be with the big club day in and day out. Maybe even get reps in LF.

All I'm saying is that Tek's peak was overrated. Gedman's peak was vastly underrated.

Yeah, who are you "going to sign" if Hanley stinks? You believe there will still be 1b's sitting at home during the season that will be worth a paycheck? Of course not! You'd have to trade more prospects (which moon doesn't want to do) in order to find a replacement 1b.

I don't remember ANY scouting reports saying he'd provide stellar defense. Most said he'd be moved off the position for being too big.

I get the anger about Burfict, but the Steelers have played along with that s***** brand of football for decades. Smash mouth football and JACKED UP HITS are over. It's time for 7 on 7 or something that won't cause so many former players to get CTE and kill themselves or others. -

It's not one deal that will cripple this team, it's if they make multiple crippling deals (i.e. overpay for Hosmer and JD and still have to worry about Price sitting on the DL).
