  1. http://deadspin.com/sprint-speed-helps-tell-us-whos-good-at-baserunning-and-1796424570 Have a look at these charts if you're still wondering if Pedroia is a good base runner or not.
  2. What do they need to upgrade? 3B and pitching (always) Who do you think they will get? Professional 3B rental on cheap dollars imo. Will they stay under the cap? Maybe? Though DD says they don't have to. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/06/deadline-notes-red-sox-giants-relievers-torres-verlander-cozart-cabrera.html The Red Sox do not need to stay under the luxury tax line in making their deadline moves, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said in an appearance today on WEEI. Recent estimates put Boston about $9MM shy of the threshold, which has added implications under the new CBA since the tax escalates when it is owed in consecutive seasons. While the Sox will no doubt weigh that factor in assessing possible trades, it’s notable that the organization doesn’t feel compelled to stay within those limits.
  3. The 2-3 weeks timetable coincides with the AA AS Game and Devers' promotion to AAA.
  4. The Red Sox signed Peralta to a minor league deal last week and he played in his first game with the PawSox Wednesday night. Dombrowski detailed the plan for him, which seems t be let him play for a few weeks and then see if he's capable of helping the major league team. "Basically, what we felt in his case was it’s worth a chance to see if he still can play," he said. "I don’t think he can play shortstop at this point — he could play a game there if he needed to. The ability to play third base, first base and move around a little bit. The key is, can he still hit? Our thought process with that is we put him down in Triple-A, he does not think he is a Triple-A player. He agreed to go down there. His representative, who we know very well, made the arrangement with us that he will go down to Triple-A. 'He’s going to show you that he belongs in the big leagues and we think he can help you right away.' We said fine, we hope that that happens. "We’ll continue to look at him. He will get at-bats on a daily basis and then at that point whenever we get there — and I would say it is probably two to three weeks. If it doesn’t look like we are going to bring him up to the big leagues, our arrangement is we will just let them know that and then we will grant him his release. We don’t have a specific date.”
  5. @redsoxstats On @weei Dombrowski said if Rodriguez gets through 65-70 pitches tonight with Portland he could start for the Sox next week.
  6. http://baseballthinktank.com/the-reason-why-left-handed-pitchers-have-more-movement-how-its-far-from-natural/ http://articles.latimes.com/1990-03-02/sports/sp-1512_1_left-handed-pitcher
  7. @redsoxstats Cole Brannen is indeed making his pro debut today, batting 2nd, playing center, injecting life into the lower tiers of the system.
  8. http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2017/06/29/rival-executives-expect-justin-verlander-to-hit-the-trading-block/ I'm on the trade for Verlander bandwagon.
  9. They are still treating Workman with kid gloves until they are no longer concerned about his injury history. Not sure they are looking to stretch him out just yet. I think the health of Thornburg and Smith has made the PawBos shuttle more important this year.
  10. They addressed this on the last SoxProspectsPodCast. The thought is that as long as Chavis is putting the work in at 3B before the game, it doesn't matter if he's only seeing in game action a few times a week. There are many games where a 3B will have no balls hit to them so in game action is seen as secondary. It's why Lin saw no time at 3B in AA this year, but they were comfortable with him playing 3B in the majors.
  11. 1. Insurance 2. The off chance that he turns it around 3. Needs someone to play 3B at Pawtucket
  12. Harmony, do you live in Boston and are a Seattle fan or do you just have an affinity for posting here? I know a few other Seattle fans who live in the area.
  13. Because they have a pattern of letting minor league players earning All Star accolades before promoting them. It may seem silly or strange to you, but it's the organizational philosophy. I'm glad they are looking at Devers' long term career path rather than jerking him around the way they did to Swihart.
  14. I support Pedro Martinez, I hate Curt Schilling. Should have resigned Pedro. GOAT.
  15. @PortlandSeaDogs Eduardo Rodriguez @eduardorod5 makes a MLB Rehab start tonight for Portland. Hurry up and get back you week kneed bastard!
  16. http://www.sfexaminer.com/albert-pujols-los-angeles-angels-agree-to-254m-deal/ The Angels made the move as the financially troubled Los Angeles Dodgers are in the process of being sold by Frank McCourt in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, a move that could give the region's NL team a new wealthy owner next year. https://losangeles.sbnation.com/los-angeles-angels/2011/12/8/2622757/los-angeles-angels-tv-deal-3-billion-20-years-albert-pujols-c-j-wilson-arte-moreno Owner Arte Moreno and the Los Angeles Angels shocked the baseball world at the Winter Meetings on Thursday morning by signing the best available hitter and best available pitcher on the free agent market, inking Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson to deals with a combined total of $331.5 million. The reason they were able to make it rain all over Dallas was thanks to a new television contract that will reportedly more than triple their current broadcast revenue. http://www.ocregister.com/2011/12/08/angels-are-signing-albert-pujols-cj-wilson/ Albert Pujols will be an Angel for 10 years! Albert Pujols will be on the Angels in April, and you will get to watch him. There is a not-bad chance this will turn out disastrous, and a not-bad chance it will lead the Angels to at least one World Series, and you can try do the math on which of those is more likely but just think about this for a second: Albert Pujols! Welcome to Albert Pujols Talk!
  17. True enough. I forgot how long ago they had signed Pujols. Woof.
  18. Oh s***, the Sox are turning into the Mariners. FML.
  19. Nope. Why move around an AS caliber player for no reason?
  20. A lot of people on here are talking about Prado. Mainly about how he costs too much and is on the wrong side of 30. He's not a guy I'd hitch my wagon to when the payroll also includes Pablo and Hanley.
  21. Manny wasn't banned for steroids. He was busted for female fertility drugs and testosterone.
  22. Peralta is just roster filler. He'll be gone once Devers is promoted on 7/13 after the AA AS Game.
  23. Margot hasn't been that good this year. They need to do a 3 team trade where they get Travis Shaw and Espinoza back.
  24. Being in LA (kinda), they feel the need to have stars, especially Latinx ones. Unfortunately, they will always be the little brother of Los Doyers. And honestly, having Mike Freakin' Trout should be enough to get people to the ballpark.
