I wouldn't trade Travis and another guy for a two month rental of Alonso. It makes no sense. Travis for Alonso, maybe. I just don't understand the "there's a cliff coming, but trade our farm now for rentals." That's a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Why would they move him next year. All the scouts say he will be fine at 3B for now. Any move would be 5+ years down the line.

He's a -0.1 WAR player. His bat is just embarassingly bad against RHP. He's decent against LHP (.949 OPS) and could be a fine platoon option.

I don't doubt the story, but I question the "many players applauding" aspect to it. That seems like something Shaughnessy would add in. I'd google how to spell his name right, but he doesn't deserve it.

Is Price the 4th or 5th starter? Which of the current guys in the rotation would have the best value out of the pen? Sale Pomeranz ERod Porcello Price Pomeranz has been too good to put into the pen. Porcello has no experience pitching in the pen and his stuff wouldn't seem to play up out there. Either ERod or Price goes to the pen. If ERod can start pitching later in games, he'll be a far better bet to start than Price. Price has the perfect stuff to come out of the pen. He's basically a fastball guy who has lost a little velocity. Put him in the pen for the playoffs and he'll have a little extra oomph on that FB. He could pitch a ton of innings out there and would be a valuable piece. He's done very well pitching in the playoffs in the pen before.

It exists. They often appear throughout the year depending upon how you build your sample. My favorite part about NESN broadcasts is how much they love talking about short hitting streaks. "Pedroia has hit safely in the past 9 games and it hitting .375 over that time period!" Well, of course his batting average will be probably be higher if he's had at least one hit in each game. When Utley hit safely in 36 games, his average was .405. He still only wound up hitting .309 that year. The "player is hot" is more theoretical than anything else.

I was ok with them sitting Devers for Marrero against a LHP (maybe Marerro's defensive upgrade would be a wash with Devers' hitting), but once XBo was taken out of the lineup and Holt inserted, it just made me scratch my head. The bottom of the order went 0-12.

Panic move, imo. Once he hits .400 next year, they'll unretire #9 and give it to him. Then you'll have to buy a new jersey.
