  1. The only funny thing is a Yankees fan thinking that they will win the division this year when you haven't done so since Obama's first term. Since the last time the Yanks won the division, the Sox have won the division 3 times and have a ring to go with it. We're the big dogs at the moment.
  2. This is why I think DD should start sending smoke signals that he is interested in other bats.
  3. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/j-d-martinezs-potential-for-falling-off-a-cliff/ Here's a long article from the Tribune. Doesn't say much of anything of note tho. Makes a case that he should be worth about $150M. If you want to take the contract down to six years, then the number comes back at $150 million. Scott Boras might be looking for that extra year, but that year shouldn’t tack on another $25 million to $30 million. Martinez is unlikely to make up for that last year with his production in the first few. Keep in mind, I’ve used only hitting comps to arrive at these numbers. For the most part, baserunning and fielding do not favor Martinez. We don’t have to ignore those two aspects of the game to get J.D. Martinez his $150 million, but we have to discount how bad the numbers make Martinez look. He can be a below-average baserunner and defender and still return a $150 million investment. He just can’t be as bad as his numbers last season or over the course of his career indicate. I think it is fair to expect two more really good seasons from Martinez. After that, the range of outcomes is enormous. Expecting good production in 2020 is a risk that any signing club is going to have to take.
  4. @BNightengale Reliever Joe Kelly jumps up to one year, $3.825 million contract with #Redsox @RobertMurrayFRS Source: #RedSox, Jackie Bradley Jr. settle at $6,100,000, avoiding arbitration. @alexspeier Drew Pomeranz reaches an agreement with the Red Sox on an $8.5M deal for 2018.
  5. @alexspeier Red Sox and Brandon Workman agreed to an $835K salary for 2018.
  6. Bruce hit lefty. I think the DH position needs to be filled by a righty who can sub in the OF once in a while for depth.
  7. I could see the case being made for a ballclub that needs a star with drawing power to increase ticket sales, but that's not an issue the Sox have.
  8. If DD has a price and sticks to it, I can't blame him if he gets outbid. He knows the payroll budget much better than any of us.
  9. That's what I've been saying.
  10. @alexspeier With today’s deadline to exchange arbitration figures, it’ll be a pretty chaotic day for the Red Sox, who have 10 unsigned arb-eligible players, including Betts, Bogaerts, Bradley, Pomeranz.
  11. The Jays are known for winning the offseason and following it up by being mediocre. Maybe they can go all in again.
  12. 2015 OWAR 23.5 2016 OWAR 41.9 2017 OWAR 15.8 I think it's reasonable to think that maybe 2017 was just a down year. Since the whole offense struggled, it could have pulled Betts down a little. I don't believe the MVP season is the "mean", but it may be somewhere between 2016 and 2017.
  13. For A700? It's possible.
  14. Watch out. Moon may pass you in the summer of 2029!
  15. @alexspeier ICYMI: Red Sox chairman Tom Werner met recently with Scott Boras. Nonetheless, as of yesterday, talks about JD Martinez remained at a standstill. Cuz sending that guy is going to get it done...
  16. The same goes for posters. Statistically A700 is probably the best and most read poster on TS, but we all really know it's Kimmi.
  17. Pretty much. I'm not really convinced JD will get more $$$ just by waiting. There's a better chance that teams just move on and fill their roster without him.
  18. Yup, even if you have mathematical theory behind your belief, it's still a big unknown.
  19. There's is no indication that any other club has a better offer on the table than the Sox. If there was, we'd all be hearing about it.
  20. Platoon DH? Pass. Devers >>> Moose
  21. LoMo probably has more upside than Lucroy. Lucroy's bat took a step back this year and was more valuable since he played at a low offensive output position.
  22. He's eyeing to be ready, but he won't be. Players aren't the best barometer for their own timetable (i.e. remember Price's magically healing arm).
  23. I want JD, but if he's going to wait until ST, it's not in DD's best interest to hold off roster construction until March. There are other power bats out there. DD should start kicking the tires and send out smoke signals. Maybe it'd get JD to just sign the damn contract.
  24. Moose is cheaper, but you get what you pay for.
