  1. Negative oWAR Pedroia! I don't see Mitch keeping his hot hitting going much longer so it's a toss up between him and Pedroia for me. I think Pedroia will come back and play his darndest and get that uni so dirty that everyone falls in love with that wee man all over again. Then he'll dive headfirst into 1b and have a bad wrist for the playoffs or some s***.
  2. The stubbornness is the reason for his extended slumping. Must be infuriating to coach him.
  3. Talkin talkin talkin lineup talk...
  4. They should all be given swirlies IMO.
  5. Betts Beni Mitch JD Xander Pedey Devers Vaz JBJ
  6. @redsoxstats After another big spring training, Travis seems all discombobulated in AAA. Only 43% of balls hit in the air so far and over the past month has struck out in 22 of his 44 at bats. .231/.297/.341
  7. You'd have to give up way too much just to borrow Machado for a few months.
  8. If they demoted Devers, it'd be a time share with Nunez and Holt. If Nunez was actually hitting, maybe that would make sense. I think Cora is a big fan of Devers and is just going to keep him around no matter what.
  9. Nah. I haven't mentioned trading Pedroia in a while. Need to save my material so it doesn't get overused.
  10. It won't happen. It's just what I wanted to happen in the offseason.
  11. SOSH is the most unfun place in the Red Sox universe.
  12. From Sox Prospects: the organization is reportedly making significant changes to Houck's mechanics and pitch arsenal; could look like a completely different pitcher from the one drafted within a year or two.
  13. He'll be ready to go by then. I bet Pedey is chomping at the bit to be with the big club.
  14. I learned about this forum back in olden times when a Dodgers board I was posting on raided TalkSox because of SeaBeachFred (I wasn't a fan of los Doyers, but had just moved to LA and wanted to learn more about the team since I enjoyed listening to Vin Scully on the radio so much). I've been asked to post on other forums from time to time, but they are always just shitshows. I prefer the TS shitshow more.
  15. It just comes down to people not liking new stuff. They are worried about the game passing them by every time Speier walks onto a NESN set. There are a lot of things to like and not like about a Sox presentation these days. Sure, the analytics can be overwhelming. However, there are lots of other things people don't like: Eckisms (cheese), Wally (back in my day the Sox didn't have blah blah blah), Sweet Caroline (but what if they are losing badly in the 8th), the k zone (makes us too critical of umpires who are great Americans and we should love them for the wonderful service they provide and they surely need their own national holiday), instant replay, baggy baseball unis (and other accoutrements) and all the other BS shown on the screen during a game (crawl on the bottom, Mid 5th report, etc.). There's always something that you probably need to ignore just for your own sanity. Or just be miserable. Either way. Whatever.
  16. I remember Iggy booting a few balls in the ALCS that year. Really helped us out!
  17. If that's your definition of eloquent, I'm not sure what to say.
  18. Traditional stats aren't good at showing things like baserunning or fielding, which WAR attempts to utilize.
  19. No, but you did say the eye test from a group of retirees (simply because of the amount of time spent on their couches) is more reliable than someone who uses a combination of stats and their own beliefs.
  20. BDC was 50% people that were rejected from TalkSox. Sad!
  21. My biggest concern with Vaz is that his overall defensive game seems to either be trending downward or just not improving to what we expected. Leon is fine defensively. I rarely watch a Sandy game and wonder what the heck he's doing back there. Somedays, Vaz just seems out to lunch.
  22. @based_ball everyone thinks the Rays are blazing some new trail but the Orioles have been using one-inning starting pitchers for years
  23. I do my judging on Memorial Day.
  24. "Offensive"? No. Just some catchers that can be adequate. If Vaz and Leon can hit like they have in the past, they're fine.
