  1. Beni did quite a bit of leading off in Spring Training. On the games I found that Beni sat, Pillar was leading off.
  2. @TheAthleticBOS It'll be 3 guys sitting in a studio calling a game on TV that's being played nowhere near them. Here's how NESN plans to make Red Sox games feel like normal this year https://theathletic.com/1927201/2020/07/13/nesn-red-sox-bruins-tv-plans/ Couldn't be any worse than a normal NESN broadcast.
  3. @byJulianMack Benintendi has really been locked in during this summer camp. Leads off with a double up against the green monster against Workman.
  4. @IanCundall With the reported additions of Downs, Mata, Houck, Duran and Groome the Red Sox player pool will be at 55. Save for Groome, who is a unique case, all of the prospects who are going to be added played in the high minors last year. Most notable omission, thus far, is Triston Casas. Groome is being added because he must be put on the 40 man roster at the end of the season if they want to keep him. Due to his injury issues, he really needs to get reps so that the Sox can figure out if he's worth the 40 man spot next season.
  5. Cotillo says there may be some surprises as to who is omitted from the player pool. Including the 5 above, that would be 55 reported players in the pool.
  6. @alexspeier Per sources, Jeter Downs, Jay Groome, and Jarren Duran have been invited to be part of the group of prospects at McCoy at the alternate site training. (@ChrisCotillo reported Downs.) More from sources: RHPs Tanner Houck and Bryan Mata are also expected to be added to the player pool.
  7. Godley was a high K guy when he was on my CHAMPIONSHIP WINNING TS FANTASY TEAM. We'll see if he can get it back. I'd be more interested in Godley starting than Johnson.
  8. @jcmccaffrey After being taken off the 40-man last year, Brian Johnson is now competing for one of the many open spots in the Red Sox rotation. Ron Roenicke also suggested the club looking at considering outside starting pitching help, too. So Clay Buchholz then?
  9. @TomCaron The "no fielders" plan worked out well for JD Martinez, who hit the first pitch he saw from Matt Barnes for a HR.
  10. Yesterday, JBJ was working on bunting down the line to beat the shift. We'll have to see if Roenicke has his hitters do that more often.
  11. Today's intrasquad game is featuring zero fielders.
  12. From Rotoworld: Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Diamondbacks are among multiple teams who have used outside labs for COVID-19 testing. It appears that some of this has been about the well-documented testing delays with MLB. Rosenthal has learned about two occasions where the Diamondbacks sent a player to a testing site in the Phoenix area in order to secure a second negative test to clear the way for him to return. The D-Backs say they have used a third-party lab roughly 20 times, which works out to less than one percent of their overall tests. Meanwhile, the team also says that every lab they have used said they are not taking tests away from the general public. It's true that we are talking about a small number of tests on the whole, but the fact is that testing is still hard to access for many people around the country. It's just a bad look for MLB more than anything else and it doesn't inspire confidence in their plan for the season.
  13. I think it's totally fine for this thread to be about MLB and its response to COVID (regular season games, testing, sick players, etc.). Anything outside that scope should be discussed elsewhere.
  14. MLB is an anachronism. Those black out rules are just the tip of the iceberg for things that need to be modernized. Unfortunately, those tv contracts are king.
  15. Because he has an MiLB deal, I wonder if they keep Arauz on the roster and have Munoz in the pool in case of injury.
  16. Sox beat reporters really pushing the Brian Johnson as 4th starter idea today...
  17. Article on Yairo Munoz (signed to MiLB deal) He plays 2b, SS, 3b, CF, LF and RF. A better version of Lin? https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2020/07/yairo-munoz-boston-red-sox-free-agent-addition-is-really-good-hitter-who-plays-six-positions-and-is-under-team-control-through-2024.html
  18. Hard to figure out who is still a FA since the MLB FA Tracker includes McHugh as an available FA.
  19. I think Cashner would be really good in a relief role.
  20. Remaining FA's: Clay Buchholz Andrew Cashner Marco Estrada Matt Harvey Danny Salazar Aaron Sanchez Jason Vargas Matt Albers Pat Neshek Fernando Rodney Arodys Vizcaino Tony Cingrani Zach Duke Tony Sipp Jonny Venters
  21. He's a better option than some of the guys they've put on the 50 man roster now. I wonder why no team has snatched him up?
  22. Sox added relievers Mick Kickham and Caleb Simpson to bring the total player pool to 50. They are supposedly meeting today to figure out what to do with the remaining 10 spots. Looks like they aren't going to go the Padres route of bringing in all their top prospects.
  23. If the problem is the "other" post, then just stop posting there. Let that dumb thread die and we can all just move on with our lives.
  24. I think they'll squeeze him onto the roster. Especially if it's just a throw away season. Much easier to stash someone if the stakes are low and there is an expanded roster. It's also not like they have another backup IFer that they couldn't risk DFA'ing. If they really like him, he's not going anywhere.
  25. Rule V
