  1. Only a simple human would say something like that.
  2. Look, he's a young man who has made a mistake. I think this will help him grow as an individual. Let's just move on and worry about the real menaces to baseball: betting on baseball 35 years ago and sign stealing! Things like DUI's and spousal abuse (HOFer Bobby Cox) are just boys will be boys stuff.
  3. Only because nobody actually reads the Boston Herald.
  4. If this was a Rays board, it'd be a conversation we'd be having decades later (ala Grady Little). Also, we're in the portion of the offseason where there isn't a whole hell of a lot to talk about.
  5. I agree. Cora stated that the Sox would spend money, but not go after the larger contracts. I think they'll bring in a lot of the smaller contracts and revamp the roster that way. Rather than AAAA fodder, they can fill up the 25 man rotation on undermarket deals.
  6. Hopefully it'll be a cinch to sack this conversation.
  7. I knew turtles had this problem but was unaware seals ingested the bags too.
  8. How about the fact that he already had a DUI back in February when he crashed his car. But wait, there's more: La Russa pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in Florida in 2007 after police found him asleep inside his running SUV at a stop light and smelling of alcohol. 'I accept full responsibility for my conduct, and assure everyone that I have learned a very valuable lesson and that this will never occur again,' La Russa said at the time. A third DUI would probably lead to jail time for any of us pleebs. However, he's a rich drunk so he'll be just fine.
  9. That's a rollercoaster of a week. Also, 2020 keeps on rewarding us.
  10. Calling it the blame pie goes back to Boston sports talk radio of the 80's with Eddie Andelman.
  11. Collusion
  12. To me, you can asses blame without assessing wrongdoing.
  13. Collusion
  14. And his performance in 2020 didn't really elicit a pay increase. Seems like a reasonable contract to me.
  15. Sox shouldn't have hired a re-tread like Cora!
  16. How do you allocate the blame pie for the pitching woes? 10% Dave Bush 25% Chaim Bloom 25% John Henry's Checkbook 30% COVID and injuries 10% SSS
  17. I think that seems like a pretty good deal for Ray. If this market was really down, why would Ray get offered 8M?
  18. MLBTradeRumors had projected him at 1/6M.
  19. Robbie Ray just signed 1/8 with TOR. That doesn't seem like a huge underpay to me. Will be interesting to see how the FA's shake out going forward.
  20. I would do that in a heartbeat. Not sure Xander would.
  21. And just as an FYI, the Sox were a top 10 offensive team this year (even with miserable years from Beni, JD and Devers). I think the vast majority of this year's offseason should be spend fixing the pitching staff. The offense was fine.
  22. Red Sox Team Stats 2020: 25th in starter ERA, 30th in starter WHIP 27th in reliever ERA, 28th in reliever WHIP I think they need to focus on both if they want immediate improvement. However, the Sox bullpen lead the league in IP. Maybe having better starting pitching would keep them from having to put so many innings on a poor relief crew? Maybe adding more starters pushes some better pitchers into a relief role which gets rid of some of the truly terrible relief options that were on 2020's staff?
  23. What's the hold up on trading DHern (aside from being a cost controlled asset)? It seems pretty obvious he doesn't have starter upside anymore.
  24. Let's see... Limited job market (only 30 positions in the US and no other available openings). Check! Currently have no job. Check! Job pays well. Check! Enjoyed working for employer before. Check! A few grump people who complain about everything anyway will be upset. Damn, looks like I need to find a different career!
  25. Remember how excited you were about the drills Bobby V was running in Spring Training?
