    @IanCundall Since Tanner Houck has moved into the rotation, here are his batters faced per start: 18 (7/22), 15 (7/28), 16 (8/7), 21 (8/12), 18 (8/17). Today, he got pulled at only 58 p. w/the top of the order coming up. Very clear the Red Sox don’t want hitters seeing him for a third time.

    @alexspeier Since the beginning of July, No. 9 hitters are hitting .275/.338/.443 against Red Sox pitchers. League average No. 9 hitters (non-pitcher variety) are posting a .220/.293/.354 line. Figuring out how to blame this on UZR.

    The geographic pods within each division are important for scheduling reasons: These will be the most frequent matchups on the schedule. The winner of each "pod" will get a playoff spot, unless that team is the overall division winner, in which case the next-best team in the pod gets to go. The driving force behind all this is regionalization. Build those rivalries, starting in the minors, which have already become more geographically aligned and presumably will only become more so over time. You don't ignore the national aspect, but baseball is already local to a significant degree. The structure of the sport ought to reflect that. -- Bradford Doolittle Shut the f*** up Bradford.
