2019 Rule 5 Draft:
Arauz - on taxi squad
Espinal - 4 G, 21 IP, 21 K, 4.71 ERA, 1.24 WHIP (went 5 Innings, 1 ER, 9 K, 1 BB, 2 H last time out) in AAA first season back from TJS
Espada - 4 G, 3 IP, 1 ER, 1.00 WHIP in A+
If his defense wasn't still a work in progress, maybe they'd be more inclined to bring him up. He's a great prospect and he'll be fun to watch once called up. I think they should be a little careful with him.
Right, "when he's called up." I don't know if he's ready yet. I think the Sox will take their time to polish the upper echelon players before they are called up. Guys like Dalbec and Chavis can be put through the ringer at any point. Future All Stars like Duran should be treated differently.
I didn't say it would. I have said that I think he keeps the 19.35 in lieu of extra years. I didn't say he'd opt out for 4/60. I questioned whether 15AAV was enough to have him opt out. I don't think it is.
Opt out make more sense for younger players who can get similar $$$'s for more years, not a 25% pay cut.
This is assuming that he makes $0 after 2022 if he keeps the 19.35. Maybe he bets on himself and realizes that he could still probably get 14AAV after 2022?
34 year old DH's don't typically command a big pay check. Guys like Edwin Encarnacion and Nelson Cruz were more likely to get 1-2 year deals each offseason.
Considering how much time he missed due to injury the past few years, it would make sense to have him gear up in AAA for a few weeks regardless of his previous performance in AAA 4 years ago.
He's good protection for JD, but I think I'd rather give Devers the protection and use Devers' speed ahead of JD.
I also, don't like Kiké/Dalbec in the 3 hole. Yuck.
