    My see saw is teetering towards "no hope for 2021." It may not matter who is in the rotation if Xander is hurt, Schwarber is delayed and the bullpen is gassed. This team was top heavy. If the lineup isn't producing, they are toast. I hope the offseason acquisitions are better next time around.

    Verdugo will be back tomorrow. Munoz may come up to replace someone, but he's not a high ceiling guy. He could be better than Marwin with the bat, but his glove is worse. He's not going to light the world on fire though. Duran, Santana, Cordero, et al all put up massive numbers at the launching pad in Worcester. I don't know if Munoz' bat will translate

    It's a reason that we can't just automatically put him in the rotation going forward. As a stop gap until the end of the season? Fine. As a rotation piece for 2022? No.

    Rios/Valdez haven't pitched since 8/5. They aren't world beaters, but are better than Davis/Robles.

    Either way, there's a short leash involved. If he's a 4 inning guy, fine. Until he can get to 6 innings from time to time, he's not really a starter.

    They have a bunch of underused guys in the pen. Why have a 14 man staff if you aren't going to use them? Not giving Barnes a rest from time to time is a mistake.

    7.88 ERA since he signed the extension. 21.00 ERA since Bloom punted the trade deadline. Maybe it's the trade deadline's fault then?

    I don't see it as separate. I think Barnes and Ottavino have been overused. They have guys sitting in the pen that are serviceable like Valdez who rarely pitch. I'm not completely surprised that the pen has been worn out. I think they should have churned and burned more guys from AAA and see if any of them stick. The useage of the pen at times has been interesting. Brennan pitched well when given the opportunity. Schreiber has MLB experience and has pitched ok in AAA. Ort? Tie game in the 9th, why not go to Perez instead of Barnes? If they had a lead, I could see why they'd go with Barnes.

    Why not go with Ottavino instead of Barnes? Valdez is barely pitching and he's come up big from time to time.

    I think the Rockies will give him a QO and hope for a comp pick. If the Sox weren't going to offer better value than that, the Rockies were going to keep him. Same with Gray.

    I think we're getting close to that time of year. Renfroe: fine as a platoon guy, ok pickup Cordero/Winckowski/Valdez/De La Rosa/Gambrell: whatever about the Beni trade, maybe Winckowski gets run at some point R Hernandez: has been as advertised, good for dumping 2 guys they were going to DFA Perez: worse than last year Richards: horrible Sawamura: ok, but just a low leverage guy Marwin: all glove, no bat, maybe retires this offseason Santana: who cares, was signed to be a AAAA guy anyway Ottavino: good trade, a lot of money for a team trying to stay under the cap though Last offseason was not good. This trade deadline was not good. The prospect pipeline that Bloom is building better work out.
