    I only thought it could be a cheaper option. I'm not really psyched on a lot of the pitching FA's this offseason. Max is old and will want too many years. Stroman and Gausman are the two I'd lobby for. Roll the dice for a healthy Syndergaard? I think Robbie Ray is a flash in the pan. DeSclafani as a lower tiered guy? Alex Wood?

    It's a magic date because the Sox magically started to suck at that time. I guess 2 straight months of playing poor to mediocre baseball is something people want to believe in, but I can't.

    The Rays strength is always their depth. Their B team would still be a very good team. All their backups are basically Alex Verdugo level good. To the Rays, a pitching backup is Shane Baz.

    Sox have the perfect schedule lined up. Even missing out on a home WC game is kinda disappointing TBH.

    Not sure they are comfortable ponying up for Rosenthal. I don't think they'll pay for Jansen. Kimbrel's ship has sailed. I guess they'd try to get Raisel Iglesias?

    I honestly think Houck and Whitlock flip roles and Houck becomes the high leverage guy. Does he close? IDK.

    You're wrong. The Sox beat up on weaker teams and fold against stronger teams. It's more likely than not that they get scorched in a WC game, because that is what past performance has shown. The coin flip idea doesn't work here.

    For what? The Sox aren't perennial underdogs. This isn't 1998. Getting embarrassed in a WC game doesn't sound like a fun time to me.

    It's a major factor because they struggle mightily against good teams. You think that portends for future success?

    They absolutely are not able to rebuild from within in 2022. Maybe 2023 some more arms could come up? Right now, the strength of their farm is much further away than 2022. I'm not sure they have anyone they can rocket through the system unless they are throwing Bello in the pen.

    I'd rather miss out on the WC game than get destroyed in it. Sure, it would be great to eliminate the Yanks, but there's a 73% chance the Yankee crowd goes home happy.

    An 8-21 streak against good teams is actually very meaningful. If they struggle to beat good teams, you can't say "well, it's just a crapshoot in the playoffs." In this situation, the deck would be extremely stacked against the Red Sox.

    The issue is that at some point, these guys need to be replaced by prospects from the minors. Maybe they just call up Feltman to take the Richards bullpen spot? Do they try to start the season with Seabold in the rotation?

    This team wasn't built to be a playoff team. This team was built to be an "also ran" IMO. They played above their heads for 2/3's of this season and are going to coast to the playoffs.

    If the Sox miss out on the final WC spot with 6 games against BAL and WAS, they should be kinda embarrassed.

    Of course, this means they'll just sign two low end SPs, a reliever and 3 UTIL guys.

    Any wins prior to the deadline weren't really "big wins" IMO.

    Marwin is already gone. I'm fine with the other guys leaving, but I still lean towards trying to get ERod to stay on the QO. Sox should have money to spend this winter. I just hope they don't go the frugal route do to "uncertainty" over the CBA.

    That's how it works when you expand the playoffs. Teams that don't feel like juggernauts can sneak in and just be kinda ugly.

    Not sure we can really pat ourselves on the back for beating the O's. Losing to good teams and then beating up on bad teams isn't a recipe for playoff success.
