  1. For some god forsaken reason, Grady Little started Manny Ramirez in RF in Fenway 3 times in August of 2002.
  2. To get to the 04 team's record, they'd have to go 23-6 the rest of the way. If they do that, I'll be on board.
  3. I'd feel more better about their chances if they were the 4th best team rather than the 5th best team. However, when they won with a WC team, they had the second best record in the AL. This year, they are legitimately the 5th best team. It's not really comparable IMO. If this team was a game or two behind the Rays at season's end and then went to the playoffs, it'd be a different feeling around these parts. We aren't there.
  4. Especially when the #4 pick was the best player in the draft. Even if he flames out, he's not Trey Ball.
  5. I'm not sure how much LF in Fenway affects UZR/150 since Beni still only has a 1.6 fWAR in KC this year. I'm sure there's a marginal affect, but it's not over the top. Playing Manny or Millar in RF at Fenway is just tempting the gods.
  6. Roenicke was good with the Brewers. Not sure what happened here.
  7. Not sure I want Ottavino going against a lot of LHB either.
  8. Where we are right now, I don't see the harm in DFAing Robles, calling up Ort, DFAing Perez, calling up Feltman. Why they opted to bring up Espinal is beyond me. Valdez has been better than Davis/Robles and they stashed him in AAA for some reason.
  9. If they keep Kiké in CF, I agree with our needs assessment.
  10. Better Gettys than the HS QB he played with: Deshaun Watson.
  11. And Ottavino came in and got out of it, but looked pretty bad in the process. I think Cora was trying to win some games without having to use the same 2 guys every time. You need more than just 2-3 arms in the bullpen.
  12. What's the big improvement from 2020? Dalbec playing instead of Chavis? Moving on from Peraza at 2b? Trading Beni for MiLB guys? Allowing JD to look at monitors again? Adding Pivetta? Whitlock I guess? Pillar was a better 4th OFer than what they have this year. If the big improvement was ERod and Sale coming back from injury, well then he really didn't do anything. They lucked out in Whitlock (learned a new pitch in ST). Kiké was an upgrade, but not better than JBJ's 2020. Why does this team have a much better record? Simply because they had 5 adequate starters to start the season? Why didn't Bloom do that last year instead of going with Weber, Mazza and friends?
  13. If they go .500 the rest of the way, they'll still get to 89-90 wins. They are a good team. They are better than the 2019 version. It's still disappointing though.
  14. AKA the 1980's Red Sox
  15. Then Bloom needs to take them off the roster. It's not Cora's fault that the roster is filled with hot garbage right now.
  16. UZR/150 Verdugo 0.6 LF, -7.7 CF, -0.4 RF Kiké 11.7 CF Renfroe 1.6 RF Duran -25.6 CF Renfroe is given a lot of credit for his defense, but here's a list of guys with better fWAR in RF while being a Red Sox: Betts, Rusney Castillo, Victorino, Cody Ross, JD Drew, Trot Nixon, Gabe Kapler. The only RFer I could find for the Sox with worse UZR/150 is Wily Mo Pena. I bet Darren Bragg's numbers would have been higher. Troy O'Leary? Is Renfroe the worst fulltime RFer since Troy O'Leary? But to the real point: Duran sucks at defense. He's really bad. He's maybe a LF only type.
  17. It's the Dog Days and that dog is Old Yeller.
  18. Perfection is one thing. Competency is another. I like the direction he is taking too, but Bloom seems to have a lot of swing and miss in his game.
  19. I'd rather miss out on the WC than lose to the Yankees in Yankee Stadium 2.
  20. Every obstructed seat should go in to a lottery. The seat that wins gets an on air interview with Jahmai and they can describe now amazing it is to be at Fenway. Have Eck and OB sit in obstructed seats and have them try to call the game.
  21. This post is to be neither an accusation nor a confession, and least of all an adventure, for death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it. It will try simply to tell of a generation of men who, even though they may have escaped (its) shells, were destroyed by the 2021 Red Sox.
  22. Instead of striking out swinging, he just k'd with the bat on his shoulder. Is that a moral victory?
  23. @SoxProspects Previously a @WooSox outfielder, Michael Gettys made his debut as a pitcher today for the FCL Red Sox working a scoreless fifth inning with one walk and one strikeout. LOL wut?
  24. That's basically a John Wasdin appearance. https://www.fangraphs.com/wins.aspx?date=1998-05-11&team=Red%20Sox&dh=0
  25. One month later, the results haven't been worth writing home about.
