  1. Yes, my original assertion that it was pick 57 was wrong. It's the pick after Competitive Balance Round B, so pick 70.
  2. It's not that I "know" my stuff. I just pulled up the CBA and the MLB rule book to see what it said. A lot of the stuff I've seen written in articles is fairly vague and doesn't get into the nuts and bolts about why things are happening. This is because sports journalists are lazy.
  3. You're going to have to show your work here.
  4. Per the CBA: With exception of draft selections forfeited by the Club pursuant to Major League Rule 3©(4), all of a Club's draft selections will be counted in determining the Club's second highest selection... What is the exception??? Rule 3©(4): If a Club fails to sign a player selected before the conclusion of the tenth round...
  5. Here's a link to the CBA: https://d39ba378-ae47-4003-86d3-147e4fa6e51b.filesusr.com/ugd/b0a4c2_95883690627349e0a5203f61b93715b5.pdf
  6. You are wrong.
  7. From the CBA: "if a club's second highest selection is a selection exempt from forfeiture, the Club shall forfeit its next highest available selection." No matter what, pick 41 is exempt.
  8. The Draft-pick compensation is also based on the financial status of the free agent's former team Under the 2017-21 CBA, six clubs will be awarded picks in Round A based on a formula that considers winning percentage and revenue. Those six teams will pick in Round A in 2017, 2019 and 2021. The remaining teams -- estimated to be between six and eight -- will pick in Round B in those years. The groups of teams, which will not change for the duration of the 2017-21 CBA, will switch picking in Round A and B in alternating years based on their initial assignment of round in 2017.
  9. They drafted Fabian #40 last year. Based on the MLB’s rules, Boston will receive a compensatory draft pick next year. It will be No. 41 overall, just one spot lower than where they took Fabian. https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2021/11/if-boston-red-sox-sign-a-qualified-free-agent-their-41st-overall-pick-second-round-in-2022-is-protected.html
  10. So if you thought that word was appropriate for what would happen, but it didn't happen the way you expected: maybe there was no cliff? Maybe it was just a reset and the cliff never happened?
  11. Even if he's ready on 4/1, we wouldn't see him in Boston this season unless they fast tracked him to the pen.
  12. You're right. My perception is that if he was getting 5 years, that he'd be closer to 88M. Seems like a fair value.
  13. Good. Having more teams that spend is really good for baseball.
  14. As long as he isn't going to recreate the 2020 starting rotation, I'm fine with it.
  15. I like the idea of it just being a "reset." It's like I'm playing a video game and haven't saved for an hour, but made some dumb mistake and it would be better to just hit reset and start over from where I was an hour ago at my last save rather than just continuing on.
  16. It's an everchanging definition it seems. It's the thneed of Red Sox arguments.
  17. Also, there are HUGE differences between 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2020.
  18. I forgot about the Carson Smith trade. That was a bungle.
  19. As notin has stated, it's probably better described as a "reset" than a cliff.
  20. Again, the cliff was explained as something that would take YEARS to fix. They hit reset for one atrocious year and then were a playoff team the following year. I'm sure everyone would have agreed to that ahead of time.
  21. By "problem" I was saying the flaw in the argument, not the reason people were upset.
  22. I'm going to need to see your math on this.
  23. Yes, I believe QO comp picks changed at some point.
  24. Doesn't seem like a very big number? He was going to get 18M if he took the QO.
  25. @jonmorosi Eduardo Rodríguez is in agreement with #Tigers on a 5-year contract worth at least $77 million, source confirms initial report by @CodyStavenhagen. There’s an opt-out after the 2nd year, as @JeffPassan @Ken_Rosenthal and @JonHeyman have reported.
