  1. The last manager we had with fire was Bobby V. FranCOMA, Farrell (boring) and Cora are the only managers we ever had to bring home a title. None of those guys are Earl Weaver types. Maybe that kind of manager just doesn't work anymore.
  2. There's nothing to "own up" for.
  3. People have a right to be angry if they get swept at home by the Yankees (when they could have wrapped up the season) and then struggled vs the O's and showed very little fight.
  4. Eovaldi's starts against NYY this season: 6/04 6 IP, 1 ER, 7k, 0bb 6/26 7.2 IP, 1 ER, 6k, 0bb 7/17 5 IP, 1 ER, 7 k, 1 bb 7/24 7.2 IP, 2 ER, 8 k, 0 bb 8/17 5 IP, 2 ER, 6 k, 1 bb 9/24 2.2 IP, 7 ER, 0 k, 2 bb I'm not sure I'd have much to complain about if he repeated any of his first 5 starts this year vs the NYY.
  5. Even when you include his last horrible start, Eovaldi has a 81 tOPS+, 1.102 WHIP, 5.91 k/bb vs the Yankees.
  6. Herding cats that don't really like each other.
  7. https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds-graphs?lg=AL&div=E&stat=poff&year=2021 When a team goes from 98% playoff odds on 9/23 to 60% a week later, I think you can give a pass to posters complaining that the teams was sucking. In fact, they played like dogshit against the Yanks and struggled against the worst team in their division.
  8. But he got everything exactly right for the past 5 years?!?!? He told us so!
  9. @redsoxstats Red Sox team offensive ranks (non-pitchers) 2nd Barrel Rate 4th Batting Avg 6th Isolated Power 6th Fewest Groundballs 7th Zone Swings 8th wRC+ 8th Hard Contact 9th On-Base Percentage 13th Strikeout Rate 21st Walk Rate 22nd Ultimate Base Running 28th Chase Rate
  10. How about $8,600 for a card that was printed 10 years ago? https://www.ebay.com/itm/384421041381?hash=item59814794e5:g:GIwAAOSwl4dhVeF5
  11. Brad Peacock 0-1. Kutter Crawford 0-1.
  12. Why do you think you are owed contritions (which isn't even a word)?
  13. It's hard not to, right? Also, tone and word policing is dumb.
  14. Same thing.
  15. @GlobeChadFinn Sox-Yankees wild card game airs on ESPN at 8 p.m. Tuesday, so … A-Rod. There will be an alternate Statcast-driven broadcast on ESPN2 with @jasonbenetti, @PerezEd, and @mike_petriello on the call. Choose your fighter...
  16. He could go from "best player of my lifetime" to "remember a guy" status really quick. All those people spending $500 on an ungraded Trout 2011 rookie might be regretting their purchase in a few years.
  17. Once you get to the 18th post of a thread, we tend to lose the plot.
  18. No mention of Daniel Gossett's start over the weekend? Player of the Day: When a pitcher carries a no-hitter through eight innings, they're an easy choice for player of the day. Daniel Gossett retired the first 10 hitters he faced, then after a walk, set down 14 consecutive IronPigs before he was done in by a single to lead off the final inning. It was a tremendous outing for the 28-year-old, as it was the first time he pitched even into the eighth inning this season. The Clemson product missed 2019 and had a solid return to baseball in 2021, pitching to a 4.22 ERA across 98 innings. I know he's really in the post-prospect stage of his career, but near no hitters should always get a mention. He missed 2 seasons due to injury and COVID. Maybe he gets another shot on the taxi squad?
  19. No, it's actually the same thing.
  20. Trout was having a tremendous season before that. 190 WRC+, 2.3 fWAR, 1090 OPS And he's still only 29 somehow. Missing out on about 200 games of his prime will be interesting for his career numbers.
  21. There was some madness though. Having 4 teams still in it on game 162 was something else.
  22. Also, the argument that a manager needs to win the MOY because James Paxton got injured is hilarious. I guess every manager that James Paxton has played with should have one of those in his closet.
  23. SEA can have the MOY as a consolation prize for another year where they miss the playoffs. An award like that is their version of the World Series. They may even put a banner up for it.
  24. I'm not sure I'd pitch Ottavino in any meaningful innings going forward.
