  1. Even when you are drafting in the top 5, it's still a crap shoot. Even the best talents don't always develop in the way that you hope.
  2. I just feel like our farm system is in much better shape the past two years than it was previously. There will always be swing and misses. (Maybe Yorke doesn't turn it around.) I'm not going to get too hot and bothered over the draft because these guys have actually seen the players they drafted.
  3. I think people like Rafaela. Scouts just see a much higher ceiling in Bleis. If he gets promoted to Salem soonish and hits well through the end of the year, I think the national rankings will start to take more notice. There's a lot of groundswell for Bleis being a top prospect, whereas Rafaela is just outhitting his projections right now. Time will tell if Rafaela can keep it up.
  4. "Deserves" as is looking as his age (24) and the current AAV of superstars. A 13 year contract gets him to age 37/38, not into his 40's. Seems ok? An AAV in the low 30's seems like FMV.
  5. We thought that last winter tho? It's the never ending wait until next year rope-a-dope.
  6. Also: Conforto will look to sign a contract after the 2022 MLB Draft and could potentially return as a hitter in September if he can get ahead in his shoulder rehab, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports Why bother signing Conforto? It doesn't make any sense.
  7. What is a "Bloom guy?" Drury has had a bounce back year, but has sucked whenever he's had to play in a big market and can't play in TOR. Pass. Conforto hasn't taken one swing in anger this season and can't play in TOR. Pass. Are you trying to corner the market on white guys that can't play in TOR?
  8. @redsoxstats Some of the stuff being said about Miguel Bleis is so audacious, and whispers about his trackman data being so good, that I don't think I've ever been more excited for in-depth post-season reports on a prospect from @soxprospects and the national outlets. Bleis top 3 prospect when?
  9. I think you can teach power. I don't think you can teach contact skills. I think would agree with the Sox theory then.
  10. The questions is: when will the spigot be turned on again?
  11. I think it's fair to see that as what he deserves to be paid, but not what you want your team to shell out.
  12. "Depth" has been an ongoing talking point for Bloom. It's not that way with most GM's.
  13. For Vogelbach, they'd have to shell out higher tier talent like Cellucci to get it done. He is pretty terrible at 1b though.
  14. @ChrisCotillo Checked on this today: Paxton is still throwing bullpens, not yet at the point of facing live hitters. He told a bunch of us in Toronto at the end of June that he was hoping to do live BPs either week of ASG or week after. Targeting mid-Aug. return.
  15. @WEEI Pablo Sandoval says he wishes he never signed with the Red Sox
  16. Ok? Tell that to the Red Sox.
  17. 440/13 years? Seems fair to me.
  18. Problem is, that's how a lot of the Bloom moves are, just adding to the "depth."
  19. @Travis_Sawchik One big down arrow: attendance. It's down *20%* since 2007 peak, or a pace for the loss of 16 million ticket buyers. It's down 14% since Manfred took office and it's down 7.5% this year compared to 2019. Attendance decline is happening faster during the Manfred years. Conversely, NFL set an attendance record last season. NBA and NHL have been largely flat at gate, taking out COVID-impacted years. This is an MLB-specific issue relative to other major sports.
  20. The only problem with that is that the more divisions there are, the easier it is to fall into last place. Also, the Sox won 78 games that year, not really what you think of when you envision a last place team. There were 4 teams in the AL worse than the Sox. There were 7 NL teams that had a worse record than the Sox. The 2004 Yankees do deserve some level of ignominy, but it's been 18 years at this point. It's like the 1918 chants and Bill Buckner stuff. At some point, it doesn't resonate with me anymore. I believe the Mariners fans, those that actually exist anyway, have suffered enough. 27 WS doesn't matter. It's not even the real Yankee Stadium anymore. The WC game last year was fun, but this rivalry is just kind of played out IMO.
  21. What about Holiday Inn to Hampton Inn?
  22. @alexspeier Red Sox prospect Triston Casas expected to return to the WooSox this weekend.
  23. I just don't see the Sox making this trade. Dombrowski? Sure. Bloom era? No way.
  24. If not giving anything up??? I guess... The definition of low risk, low reward. Don't want him hanging around on the 40 man through 2024 though.
