The only problem with that is that the more divisions there are, the easier it is to fall into last place. Also, the Sox won 78 games that year, not really what you think of when you envision a last place team. There were 4 teams in the AL worse than the Sox. There were 7 NL teams that had a worse record than the Sox.
The 2004 Yankees do deserve some level of ignominy, but it's been 18 years at this point. It's like the 1918 chants and Bill Buckner stuff. At some point, it doesn't resonate with me anymore. I believe the Mariners fans, those that actually exist anyway, have suffered enough.
27 WS doesn't matter. It's not even the real Yankee Stadium anymore. The WC game last year was fun, but this rivalry is just kind of played out IMO.
